Using advertising for revenue creates an incentive to sensationalism because it brings in eyeballs, which increases ratings, which means networks can charge more for ads. Trump knows this and this is exactly why he says and does such outrageous things, his supporters are all authoritarians who will blindly follow their Dear Leader so he can say all the shit he wants without negative consequences for him.
