For a long while it was kept under wraps, while Newtie wagged his finger at Bill Clinton. My understanding is that a lot of Newt's staff started getting pissed at Calista (she was ignoring the chain of command, in essence, and really ticking off the senior and mid-level staff) and THEY basically sandbagged her by ratting her out in an oblique way to Wife Number 2.

By all reports, Wife Number 2 was very loving with the staff, the type who remembered birthdays, who sent along a gift when someone had a baby, who brought baked goods into the staff, sent cards at the holidays, fussed over anyone was ill, etc. The staff, in some regards, was more loyal to the Missus than their principal!

At the end of the day, though, it all came crashing down.
