(86,508 posts)saving for later. The CURRENT is still playing his whole catalog right now

When they are done with the catalog in alphabetical order, they will start playing albums and an exclusive live performance that he did for them. This was his favorite radio station in the cities and he would release some of his music there... a listener supported station. Soon as I start having an income again I plan to donate to them for doing this and putting it online for us. And buy some of his recordings.

Yeah, all other sound is on hold until this tribute is over.
Prince is the only human I know of to have mastered what I think is the entire vocal range that a human can possibly have. If not, pretty damned close. I'm a vocalist and have a huge range but Prince was far beyond my reach at each end of the staff.
He truly was a musicians' musician. I'm still driven to tears when some songs come on.
RIP.

You cannot dismiss Prince's talent.
I'm a fan. Fuck it if you think I shouldn't stick up for his memory.
While there are certain duers, people I will I respect up until my bullshit tolerance has been breached. and before he is even placed in his final resting place saying that Prince was an asshole Republican.

(86,508 posts)so I went into town, the only place to go and see the rest of the "townies" is at the bar. So I went and got some much needed hugs and was surprised to discover how many of fellow "townies" are also Prince fans.
I don't drink so I slipped a $20 in a poker machine and someone played the whole Purple Rain album on the jukebox! I was in between tears and not being able to sit still the whole time and I won $100 at the same time.
I was impressed to see how many folks in this little redneck, western town are avid Prince fans! Who knew?
It was a pleasant surprise to say the least.

(39,961 posts)is that he absolutely defied assumptions.
You can try to pin Jello to the wall to pin what he was going to do next musically.
Mozart wrapped up in Freddie Mercury and displaying unforgettable soul, funk and the human condition.
I can't think of words that identify him well enough, he defied everything we know about a lot of things. Everything happens for a reason, some say, I wonder if there is a lesson to be learned in this event... will we learn it?
I was just glad to see that so many in my community shared my feelings about this... those I didn't expect to feel that way.

(39,961 posts)I want to learn it. I'm sad, though, that we lost a legend.

(86,508 posts)I found it in Google images, many have been added in the past couple days... like my avatar, it's the logo for his new album modified after his passing to show, instead of his three shaded lenses his eyes are closed but the third eye is open. I like it, it is the avatar for his twitter acct. now. (not that I do twitter either, I just saw a news article about it and went on a search.)
He was cremated today and a private ceremony was held. His ashes are in an undisclosed location.

He will be missed, but his music will live on.
It's so sad, he was just on SNL a few weeks ago.
Mister Ed
(5,928 posts)Her recollection is that she watched from the left rear of the room that night, instead of her usual place at front right.
I wasn't there myself. Wouldn't have been, because I wasn't the Prince fan that Mrs. Ed is, and besides, we weren't fated to meet for another four years. I would have been wherever the Replacements or Husker Du or the like were playing instead.
But I do remember the write-up of this show in the local news & entertainment weekly (the City Pages). Describing the new songs unveiled at the show, the writer (probably Martin Keller) said that one of them had a Ramones-like "Hey, Ho, Let's Go" sort of a refrain. That would have been "Let's go Crazy". First night that song and "Purple Rain" were ever heard by the public.
Funny what sticks in your memory. We sure had some good music in this town.
