Group asks Vrakas to ban clerk Nickolaus from today's election

A group of Waukesha County residents that claim to be a mix of Democrats, Republicans and Independents emailed County Executive Dan Vrakas Monday afternoon requesting that County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus be banned from Tuesday's election process.
The Concerned Citizens of Waukesha County in a letter asked Vrakas to file a restraining order against Nickolaus to remove her from the polling area, or to have a special agent on hand to observe today's election ongoings.
"Nickolaus' well-documented record of incompetence and the storm of controversy she has repeatedly generated in the basic process of counting ballots have damaged her credibility beyond repair.
"She has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that she must not be in charge of anything to do with elections and she must no longer have any 'authority or responsibility' over election results," wrote the group. The email was sent by member Keith Jamieson of Pewaukee.
Nickolaus created controversy after she made errors when reporting vote totals in the Supreme Court Justice race between JoAnne Kloppenberg and David Prosser.
She again created controversy with the way she handled reporting vote totals in the spring election that had reporters up until the next morning waiting for vote totals and totals were not posted on the county website until much later.
After that incident Vrakas asked Nickolaus to hand off election duties to another clerk. However, media reported in the May primary that Nickolaus seemed to still be running things at the county courthouse.
"Clearly asking Nickolaus to promise to stay away from the ballot counting process and other half-measures have proven ineffective," said the letter.
A message left with Vrakas seeking comment and an email inquiry to Jamieson for additional comment has not yet been returned.
