http://billmoyers.com/content/what-do-your-morals-say-about-your-politics/Much of Haidts analysis is derived from a series of surveys available on his website, YourMorals.org, that ask thought-provoking questions about everything from romantic love to business ethics. Visit his site to explore your own moral values and find out how they relate to your political inclinations. Or start with this 28-question survey, adapted from Haidts, about the morally complex and politically divisive issue of criminal justice.

(47,675 posts)Generally that means Democrats (not exclusively), but it is a matter of values not money. Voting for an asshole like Rmoney is outside the boundaries of any moral discipline, religious or not. I'm not religious, but I know the central tenants of every religion are founded upon the treatment of others and the GOP is so far out of touch with the subject that it disgusts me when one of them even mentions "God" or uses quotes to justify their slaughter of humanity and the earth in general.

(43,155 posts)It should be noted I am extremely opposed to the concept of the death penalty (probably the one issue which I do see it as a matter of black and white) and I have a strong adversion to the notion of vigalantism and the concept of making an example of transgressors or de-humanizing (literally) them as "monsters."

(25,771 posts)On these type of tests I am always conflicted by nuance, wording, etc. Sometimes I could easily go another way just by the way the wording was inflected in my head. i.e., "decency - purity" ?? "decency could refer to religious bigotry or obscene wealth. Anyway here are my results:
Harm - 4.7
Fairness - 4.3
Loyalty - 2.0
Authority - 1.5
Purity - 1.7

(38,303 posts)Some of the questions seemed irrelevant to any reality I've lived in. Life's not a television crime show. The story doesn't end when the bad guy is caught or the court reaches a verdict.
A few times I simply voted by smell. The questions about vigilante justice and amputations were real stinkers, and civilized nations do not allow a death penalty. The U.S.A. is not a civilized nation.
I suspect my personal views are more radical than this test can gauge. Crime is a big business in the U.S.A., from prisons to television, to insurance, to banking and corporate fraud. Thus crime is promoted here.
Our masters in this plutocracy would like us to focus on the street crimes, and make criminal things that are not crimes such as drug addictions, thus diverting our eyes from the high crimes and treasons committed in their own board rooms.
