EL PASO, TX (KTSM/CNN) -
Scalia died Saturday at the Cibolo Creek Ranch in Marfa, TX. His body was found after he failed to show up for breakfast.
The body of Scalia arrived in El Paso, TX around 2 a.m. Sunday.
A state trooper led a convoy of five vehicles to Sunset Funeral Home.
A spokesman for the funeral home said he expected Scalia's body to flown out of El Paso either Monday or Tuesday. He said all funeral preparations, including the embalming process, will be handled in El Paso.

(14,177 posts)A very very bad man died. I have no problem with people grave dancing for that. I had no problems with the Brits and their celebrating when Thatcher died. And if the RWers celebrate when one of our icons die I actually don't have a big problem with that. I have seen them do it and it effected me so much I can't even remember who died that made them happy, but yes I did see it the specifics allude me at the moment though.

(30,884 posts)There was a time on DU when grave dancing was frowned upon, when most DUers tried to be above it. No more, the community standards here are to encourage and support speaking ill of the newly departed.
RW boards OTOH have always seemed to dance enthusiastically on still-warm corpses.

(32,078 posts)On one hand, I hate it when people here stoop to their level. But, I do understand it, especially as one of millions who had her life totally ruined by his contribution to Bush vs. Gore, and who will likely never be able to recover from it thanks to his Citizens United vote. And, for the most part, the grave-dancing here doesn't come anywhere near the level of vileness we see from the right on a regular basis. I am trying my hardest to refrain from it, but it's not easy. My tongue is bleeding from biting it so hard.
Kalidurga
(14,177 posts)I think that if you are having a hard time refraining from it you shouldn't. I don't mean you should share your feelings do it if you like though. But, write out how you feel. Dance in the privacy of your home I mean like really dance put on some music like K C and the Sunshine boys and dance. It's really okay to feel good when a bad guy passes it really is. We lose tons more good people and it's sad when good people die and it's because of people like Scalia.

(11,360 posts)There are religions (like, for example, Judaism) that don't allow embalming, yet require burial. If you could not transport a corpse legally, the deceased would need to be buried in whichever state they died in. Is this an exemption, or is that law a myth?
LiberalArkie
(15,708 posts)Probably before decomposing starts.
jmowreader
(50,552 posts)The Torah says to bury people the day they die - which was a hell of a lot easier before you had to buy a burial plot and wait for your relatives to fly in from across the country. Modern custom is to bury them the NEXT day so the relatives can make all the necessary arrangements and be at the ceremony.
jmowreader
(50,552 posts)Be aware that some states require that the body be embalmed if it will leave the state, and some states require that the body be embalmed if it will enter the state. In addition, some states require that a body be embalmed if it will be transported via common carrier, such as an airplane, train, commercial bus, or trucking line. If your religion has prohbitions against embalming, it's a good idea to speak with your local religious leader to get a sense of how your community feels about this issue, or see our article Religious Perspectives on Embalming.
I also found http://www.uscj.org/JewishLivingandLearning/Lifecycle/JewishFuneralPractice/GuidetoJewishFuneralPractice.aspx:
If someone dies of a contagious disease, the law says they must be embalmed for transport to protect the general public. Jewish law is okay with this. A Jew that died of other causes, and must be shipped within the US, is shipped unembalmed in a hermetically-sealed container. Bodies shipped internationally must be embalmed.

(17,196 posts)he late Justice Antonin Scalia, a renowned conservative, and his liberal best friend on the Supreme Court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, put ideology aside to strike up one of Washington's most memorable friendships. Their back-and-forths at public events often seemed more like comedy routines than sentiments shared by two sitting Supreme Court justices. Ginsburg paid tribute to her 'treasured friend' and called them 'best buddies' in a public statement about his death on Sunday. 'He was eminently quotable, his pungent opinions so clearly stated that his words never slipped from the reader's grasp', she added. Pictured left: Ginsburg and Scalia as extras for the Washington National Opera's production of 'Ariadne auf Naxos' in January of 1994. Also in 1994, Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsburg visited India and rode an elephant, center.

I'd say this is an open and shut case. Scalia ate too many cheeseburgers, they hardened up his arteries, eventually his coronaries got clogged, he had a heart attack. Happens all the time.

(141 posts)Scalia lived his last day as he lived most of his adult professional life. Unethically, getting free gifts and services from those who seek favor or access.
I knocked on the door loudly, said Mr. Poindexter, who said Justice Scalia and the other guests had been staying at the ranch free for the weekend. I had him in a very large room a suite and I thought he might be in the bathroom.
They probably also paid for his private plane flight.
