MSNBC

I remember when Ed Schultz joined the team and the uproar against him on the DU.
He was called every name in the book. Ed is gone and so is Keith.

Now look at that piece of shit network.

Ahhh...I long for the "good old days".

2. I used to leave MSNBC on most of the day and a lot of evenings

Then they fired David Schuster, Martin Bashir, Keith Olbermann and Ed Schultz. Many of the other hosts seem to be very subdued - Tamron Hall used to be very fiery in her co-hosting with David Schuster, now she just doesn't have the same zest.

Now MSNBC seems to be the GOP Primary Channel - all right wing nuts all the time. Since I change the channel as soon as a Republican starts talking, I have been spending less and less time watching anything on MSNBC. While I enjoy Rachel Maddow, it has been months since I have watched a single of her shows all the way through and I no longer make a point to tune in every night.

The good news is that I am watching more relaxing shows - at the moment I'm watching a Father Brown episode I recorded on my DVR. After that I may binge watch Ash vs. the Evil Dead or Doctor Who.

And I used to even be a somewhat defender of Chris Matthews as a representative of the old time pol out of the 1960s and 1970s who had experience in politics, who knew Tip and Ted and worked for Jimmy Carter.

However, Matthews has become insufferable again.

Except for the new political show with Heilemann and Halperin (which is pretty objective and newsworthy) ... I'm hardly watching anymore.

16. Yeah, the corporate management is very heavy handed

While I am disappointed in the loss of fire in people like Tamron Hall, I can understand that they need to keep working. If they were openly rebellious the way that Schuster, Bashir and Olbermann were they would be looking for jobs.

Tamron and others like Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes and Lawrence O'Donnell seem to be treading a fine line. I can watch them so long as their coverage does not include a lot of video of Republicans but they couldn't pay me enough to watch Donald Trump or Ted Cruz blather on. Rubio is easier to ignore but his lack of content is boring.

3. "Schultz spent years as a rabid right-wing talk radio host in North Dakota . . . . .
Tue Feb 9, 2016, 12:47 PM
Feb 2016

"Vestiges of the old Ed surface from time to time. Last September, for example, Schultz responded to a wave of gang violence in Chicago by calling on Obama to deploy the military in the city:

"Mr. President, I got a great idea as to where you can send those troops that you just brought home from Iraq. How about Chicago, Illinois and a bunch of other big cities in this country? It’s time we look out for our own backyard, security is an issue.

"But all of this pales in comparison to the sort of rhetoric Schultz served up in his days as the Rush Limbaugh of the Great Plains. His old station, KFGO in Fargo, told me that recordings of his old shows don’t exist. But a string of profiles from 2004, when Schultz was launching his left-leaning national radio show, remain available online and preserve some of his statements.

"The right-wing version of Schultz opposed abortion in all circumstances, mocked homeless people by sneering, “How about getting a job?” and proclaimed that “I’d like to see the president get all the illegals out of the country, so we can start all over again.” And in an homage to Limbaugh, Schultz would tell listeners that he was broadcasting from “high atop” the studios of his Fargo radio station."

9. I generally liked his show on MSNBC, although he was somewhat of a simpleton.

Obviously, he played too much football before they improved the helmets.

I bet your client's stories where interesting.

12. She's fairly apolitical and I try to avoid political topics while working.

But he happened to show up on the TV in the hotel lobby. She didn't say anything about his politics. More about his personality (bully etc). Of course she hadn't seen him in 30+ years but she still didn't like him!

Correction: it wasn't high school, but college. Moorehead, MN.

13. but Ed evolved - slowly is some instances
Tue Feb 9, 2016, 01:46 PM

I listened to him for years and his evolution was quite interesting to observe.
When I was walking my choice was him, Rushy or some NPR crap. Ed won hands down.

His downfall on MSNBC came from slowly coming around to workers plight after being behind employers.

I never liked Ed's "authoritarian" style but I know some people do and his message (since his conversion to the left) is good, so I give him my blessing (ha! like he needs it!).

The Meek One may not know her value but does know her place. I wonder what designer's she has in mind for the Trump inauguration. Trump was on and his remark about "Pussy" was not addressed by the Meek one.

Morning Joe is full of republican talking points and Donald Trump interviews. I have been turning the channel every time I see Donald. What I have noticed is I don't watch MSNBC much anymore because I am doing that. I like Rachel and Lawrence most of the time, everything else is corporate media crap.

8. MSNBC is not any better than the others -
Tue Feb 9, 2016, 01:13 PM
Feb 2016

it's owned by the NBC/Comcast conglomerate: NBCUniversal, Inc.; CEO: Steve Burke (billionaire)

So, that should make things a little clearer ...

11. Having cut the cord in June, my main loss was MSNBC. I was in withdrawals but found a EU feed
Tue Feb 9, 2016, 01:28 PM
Feb 2016

and continued to tune in when the feed worked. After scouring the Internet, I've found new sources for news, where the hosts aren't constrained AT ALL. Very refreshing. This week marks my first without tuning into MSNBC and I don't foresee going back.

I still download Rachel's podcast but will probably stop listening to her eventually.

I used to defend MSNBC to the DU haters. Not any more. But this will be my last time to brag about how I don't watch it anymore. It's such a stale and boring thing to brag about.
