The quake was centered 32 km (20 miles) off Pijijiapan in Chiapas state near the Mexican cities of Tres Picos, Tonala, and Arriaga, the USGS said
Guatemalas capital, Guatemala City, is 342 km (213 miles) away.

That is south of the isthmus of Tehuantepec. This means Central America. Most of Mexico is in North America. And now the fun part. Look at Mexico's geophysics institute measurement. Too much inside baseball. They are using a newer version of the Richter scale. Their numbers might be higher by they rely on the cycle of the wave as best as I can tell. And of course damage
