Nineteen dogs and 10 cats rolled into Sequoia Humane Society’s King Salmon headquarters Thursday, all rescued from Bay Area animal shelters where euthanasia was a possibility.

It’s not the first time the private nonprofit animal rescue group has welcomed animals transferred from other facilities — they do the same for Humboldt County Animal Shelter in McKinleyville and Miranda’s Rescue in Fortuna when time and space allow.

“We work with the Humboldt County Shelter to take in as many as we can of theirs,” Celeste Thaine said. Thaine is Sequoia Humane Society’s office manager, volunteer coordination and manages the website.

They do the same rescues for a variety of shelters between Humboldt County and the San Francisco Bay Area. But the canine and feline companions rarely arrive in such large numbers as they did Thursday.
