(if all parts of it are true - somehow I never knew Boehner smoked, maybe because that factoid wasn't relevant in the larger picture)

Maybe he should offer to offset the cost from campaign funds (if that's legal) or just use a different (smoke free) office instead of Boehner's old office.

I don't know if it's even possible to remove the stench of smoking from carpet. I've been in many supposedly "non-smoker" hotel and motel rooms where the owners had failed miserably.

Helpful Hints from Heloise

Getting rid of the smell can be difficult. My mother's homespun remedy: Set out bowls of white vinegar or ammonia (keep out of reach of children and pets). The two biggest areas that absorb odors are walls and flooring. Clean the walls -- if they can be wet-washed -- with a nonabrasive, all-purpose cleaner. No luck? You (or your building manager) may have to repaint. Be sure to brush on a sealant, available where paint is sold, first.

For carpeting, try a dry carpet cleaner with granules, which is spread on, left for a while, then vacuumed up, or a deodorizer, which you sprinkle on before running the vacuum. Beyond that, you may need a machine: a heavy-duty cleaner that sprays a detergent-and-water solution, or a shampooer. Last resort: Call in the carpet-care professionals.

....he doesn't smell like one, he *is* one. But not to worry because Ryan, one of the infamous repuke "Young Guns," will absorb the 2nd hand smoke into his lungs just like a Party champ. And I even have some good news for him: It's not just in the carpet. I can guarantee him that the *entire* office, along with every piece of furniture within it, is saturated and permeated with poisonous nicotine, just like the carpet is.

Here's wishing him a very healthy life, while he spends his precious energies making life to live for the 99% of us, as difficult as he possibly can.

The issue is with Boehner smoking, and Congress exempting itself from healthy workplace standards, not with an individual trying to clean up the resulting mess. (Not that I have any love for Ryan but this one isn't his fault.)

If we don't want taxpayer dollars used stupidly we should vote for better representatives. Any predictions on what voter turnout will be for Tuesday's election? Not that Congress is on the ballot this year, but local reps are important, too.

The smell is totally obnoxious. I don't see why that expense should be on him. It's a health issue and a responsible thing to do for other people who visit him in that office.

I don't think it should even be legal to smoke in government buildings. Take your damn cigarette break outside like most working people have to do.

Edited to add:
I love that Ryan clip, but I still say, it's not just him who has to live with the smell. He gets to pull the carpet. But I hope that clip goes viral.

Tue Nov 3, 2015, 08:47 AM
Nov 2015

"I don't think people asked me to be speaker so I can take more money from hardworking taxpayers to create some new federal entitlement. But I think people want to have members of Congress that represent them, that are like them," Ryan said. "Don't you want your member of Congress to be a citizen legislator who lives with you, among you, who has your own kinds of concerns, who wants to spend time with his children on Saturdays and Sundays?

Yes, we do and what is a concern is when someone in our family gets sick and we are living paycheck to paycheck and trying to figure out a way to take care of them and not lose our house.

Do you really think, if a member of Paul Ryans family was sick, he would come home and help take care of them BUT forfeit his pay while he was doing so?

Then there is also this gem,

"I live in Janesville, Wisconsin. I commute back and forth every week. I just work here. I don’t live here," he said, per Politico. "I get up very early in the morning. I work out. I work until about 11:30 at night. I go to bed, and I do the same thing the next day. It actually makes me more efficient. I can actually get more work done by sleeping on a cot in my office, and I’m going to keep doing it."
We were able to get a picture of Paul Ryan hard at work until 11:30 before he turned in on his cot.

Oh shit! I forgot about that part. I did wonder why they would vote in a tea partier for speaker...who the hell is behind these guys (tea partiers)?

I know it was orignially started by the Koch Bros, but are they still funding these guys? Probably the ones in congress, or anyone running for any republican office.

I guess the part I don't understand, is haven't people had enough of these clowns?

... funded the original "astroturf" organization through numerous cardboard nonprofit cutouts. A bunch of low-wattage intellects screeched about the Constitution without ever actually reading it in order to give a thin patina of legitimacy to the semi-literate trailer trash they conned into protesting, and self-aggrandizing clowns like Glen Beck gave them their Pox News talking points. They still had a hard time with spelling on their signs, though.

The weasels took over Toad Hall, busted up the furniture, and now they don't know what the hell to do with it.

This is my biggest complaint regarding the Republicans, the hypocrisy. They love to refer to themselves as Christians, but that's just a lie. Lawrence Yep (author of several children's books), referred to these folks as nothing but "Sunday Christians".
I totally agree with you, "rotten to the very core", and proud of it. He has no shame.
