"SNIP............
Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis, who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, privately met with Pope Francis during his historic trip to the U.S., according to her legal team.
Davis and her husband Joe met with the pope at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 24, according to a statement from the Liberty Counsel.
Neither the Vatican nor the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, D.C., have commented on the statement from Davis' legal team.
ABC News' Terry Moran asked Francis Sunday night if he supports individuals, including government officials, who claim religious liberty as a reason to disobey the law.
Francis responded, "I can't have in mind all the cases that can exist about conscientious objection, but, yes, I can say that conscientious objection is a right that is a part of every human right. It is a right. And if a person does not allow others to be a conscientious objector, he denies a right."

(135,632 posts)they believe religion trumps all social mores. given most americans are way beyond this issue, the pope's opinion probably mean's less
than the media will make of it.

(1,232 posts)with her. He went from speaking before congress at 10am to the lunch with the homeless people, then caught a 4pm flight out of town. The question I have is why would he bother with her and why wasn't there one bit of press about it during the anti-LGBT summit last week? She was in town for that but her lawyer didn't talk about it then? Why wait until the Pope has left the USA?
If something doesn't make sense, it's usually not true. I could be wrong! But... this isn't adding up very well.

(20,176 posts)he has a history of citing anonymous Vatican sources that seem to exist solely within his imagination and confirm his objective or perspective.
His original source was Davis (or more likely her lawyers) and his "Vatican sources have confirmed to me that this meeting did occur; the occurrence of this meeting is not in doubt" carries less than full credibility until someone in the know goes on the record in their own name to say he's not making crap up again.
His Moynihan Letters for Inside The Vatican are little more than blind-item-filled Catholic/Vatican gossip columns.

I think if anything happened, it was that someone got Kim Davis inserted into a group that had a brief meeting with the Pope.
But it obviously was considered of very little importance because the Vatican is saying nothing about it.

(10,362 posts)Her conscientious objection is based on hate. Is that what the Catholic church is about? Between this and their meddling in Catalonia, it's taking the shine off the Pope's visit.
I hope that publication is wrong because I can't support homophobia, even if it's cloaked as political speech.
Just like the rally for Kimmy Homophobe in Peru that never happened.

The Pope and his team are not stupid.

And the "Inside the Vatican" link is just some reporter with a website.

(11,238 posts)So their two sources are Kim Davis' lawyer and some guy who has a website and says Kim Davis told him the meeting happened. The NYT reporter barely rewrote the Inside the Vatican post. Top-notch reporting, that is!

(14,971 posts)it's all" Kim Davis says" or 'her legal team says'. I don't trust either of them. And the Vatican's not talking.
NBC News could not immediately verify Liberty Counsel's statements with the Vatican. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/pope-francis-visits-america/kim-davis-attorney-claims-she-had-secret-meeting-pope-d-n435916
