Thank you New England Journal Of Medicine.
Sadly this won't silence the morons and their media hacks - they are not interested in truth and facts.

(1,407 posts)I have yet to have a great response other than "it was a long time ago and eugenics has to do with it now". Then they start in about the number of PP in predominantly african american/minority areas and the number of aborted minorties

(11,945 posts)that some physicians aren't very culturally aware, but frankly I can't understand how any scientist cannot tell the difference between a fetus and a baby. It's fine -- in fact it's very good -- if a happily pregnant woman thinks of her fertilized egg as "my baby," but there really IS a difference between a zygote, an embryo, a fetus and a baby. A whole lot happens in those 9 months.

(5,668 posts)truth is there are some pro abortion people purely pro abortion. ie anti birth control but pro abortion. and not the exceptions either. say if my belief in something is challenged I'll fight like hell to believe in that belief. say the facts are there. the same goes for this and for some this will go right over their heads. Most human beings support this research. right or left. until recently.. it's all a political game to some people and it's hurting friends and family. all because of one man who could care less.

(10,749 posts)Reality and science have a liberal bias.
What's also shameful is that scientists that are conservative or Republicans (and you know they are out there) are too fucking cowardly to speak up in support of PP and of scientific research generally. The Nutty Brain Surgeon could have taken the high road and not only discussed his fetal cell research but also the value of that research generally , but instead he then described Planned Parenthood as the number one killer of black babies because it plays well with the low information voter.

(23,970 posts)...I tabulated the pro and con answers by physician/non-physician and by medical specialty of the responder. Here you go:
total pro - 5
total con - 18
Family practice - 3 con
Cardiovascular disease - 4 con
Pathology - 1 con
Pulmonary/Critical care - 1 con
Pediatric - 1 con
Allergy/Immunology - 1 con
Internal medicine - 1 neutral
MD unspecified - 1 pro
OB/GYN - 2 pro/ 1 con
non-physician - 2 pro/ 4 con
I find it interesting that the 2 of the 3 pro physicians are both OB/GYNs

(5,399 posts)Got this article this week and was infuriated by the MDs who have NO dealings with pregnant women weighing in on this. They are all terrified of caring for pregnant women, often refusing to evaluate/treat minor illnesses such as sinusitis, gastroenteritis, bronchitis in pregnant patients; somehow they are at the ready to judge what those pregnant women do when it comes to abortion/ contraception.
To be expected, I guess, but highly disappointing all the same...

(23,970 posts)It is my long held opinion that the only pregnancy a man has any business commenting on is one for which he accepts responsibility, for the full life of the child he helped create. Other than that, butt out. The same goes for non-OB health care providers
An somewhat off-topic but related professional question. I am a nurse practitioner is a peds office. 40 year career. We often get nursing moms who get various prescriptions from their GPs or OB-GYNs, who then tell them, "Call your pediatric office to make sure it is safe while you're nursing." I think that anyone who treats a nursing mom ought to have one of the drugs-and-lactation reference books in their own offices. What do you think?
I further think that making use of fetal tissue to advance health care is a way to honor those little lives that did not get the chance to come to term, for whatever the reason might have been

(2,012 posts)and many enlightened physicians who have actually studied the facts in this case and are courageous enough to stand up for Planned Parenthood, families' and women's health contraception, and the right for women to choose when or if they want to bring another child into the world.
I am sick to death of the right-to-lifers like the doctor in the comments preaching to us that his "Christian beliefs" demand that he tell the rest of us what to believe and how to act.
For one thing Jesus never mentions abortion (though there were probably thousands of female followers who would have loved to have had family planning) but he had lots to say about hypocrites. Hypocrites like those who want to "rescue" every embryo and fetus; how many of them are willing to adopt all these millions of live innocent children who would actually be born. These are the same "Christians" who have no plans or concern for all the live children who are born unwanted into neglect and poverty and who we know will never have the kind of opportunities every child should have. Jesus also had lots to say about how hard it is for the "haves" to get into heaven; like those who vote down every tax to support any service to help families provide education, food, shelter, or health services.

(23,083 posts)That's for the reality based crowd, who already knew this to begin with. It's nice to have facts on our and PP side, however, this will go completely unnoticed by wingnuts in congress and by those that watch faux snooze. This is guaranteed not to be covered on that channel and not likely to be covered by the msm either.
