I am confident that some point soon the mask will drop on all the force fed trash the corporate media insists is more important than what is actually important. The list is too long and social media too strong for even the cheerleaders of the Iraq war and doubters of facts to make their return to keep it all up.

2016 is supposed to be the year 2 billion dollars in inflated price paid election ads is dropped on corporate media....not getting that cash is unthinkable.

Oh, wait. Maybe just take over CNN, MSNBC, PBS, ... The pub(l)ic will think they're getting some new and unbiased.

The $2B is just circulating in the sewage pipes between the conglomerates (MSM, advertising, cable/etc., consultants). They'll try to scrape some dollars out people with too much overflow but you're right: it's inflated monopoly money.

There are elements of both Huxleys Brave New World and Orwells 1984 being utilized by the media and the 1% that control them.

In 1984 the people of Oceania are so propagandized that they don't realize the state declared enemy has switched from Eurasia to East Asia. Something similar is occurring now in that the US is supporting elements of Al Qaeda in Syria and jihadist warlords in Libya along with dictator Saudi princes that chop off heads and hands and massively bomb civilians that are rising up against another dictators regime in Yemen. We also support shiite mullahs in Iraq and have recently allowed the Turks to bomb the Kurds who we previously stated we were protecting. Our actions have caused a massive refugee crisis in the Mediterranean and have even directly led to the recent killing of 40 British and Russian tourists in Tunisia.

As in Brave New Worlds, we are distracted by the things around us via marketing, the internet, pornography, the social media (me society), new technology and toys, reality television, media manipulation (coverups/intentionally deceptive narratives/ intentionally neglecting to report newsworthy stories).

There are great things of importance going on globally, but even if you look at many of the threads here in the DU General Discussion forum, you will see that many, many superficial 'news' stories are getting more views than stories of importance, sadly.

The media needs reminding they are the only business mentioned in the Constituion for a fucking reason...do your jobs media, your media protections mean nothing if you breach your end of the contract.

In today’s environment, almost all the news Americans get is biased by multi-billion dollar news corporations and presented by millionaire news casters. This is exactly what our founding fathers didn’t want to have happen.

That is why they put the press in the constitution, the only industry explicitly referenced in the constitution. Still, the Republicans want to do away with the few remaining threads of our free press.

'We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.'

From this preamble, can you tell who the government is?

Obviously it’s “We the People", not "We the Corporations".

headed by industry toadies who came from and will go back to the industry, rewarded for selling out our country. Their budgets are bare bones to the point that they cannot perform their functions. Our refineries and chemical plants are "SELF REGULATING" because our government cannot (will not) fund inspections! I know these industries can afford to pay for their proper regulation, but it's much cheaper for them to bribe politicians with legal campaign money!

We live in a Facist state run by oligarchies. They feed us the propaganda through 300 channels and radio that is the same over the whole country. Not enough of us have realized this crap yet, but many are starting to put it together.

Thank the stars for Bernie Sanders, tell it long and tell it loud brother!

votes being counted on non verifiable proprietary software and the fact that the media is now entirely in the pockets of corporations and simply parrots the government line leads me to believe the US Constitution is no longer an effective document, unfortunately. It needs a rewrite to prevent occurrences form these happening that is in line with the time period we live in and the realities we face.
