Idaho woman comes under fire for celebrating her killing of giraffe

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/08/04/us-zimbabwe-wildlife-idaho-idUSKCN0Q82AW20150804

A big-game trophy collector from Idaho has ignited a firestorm of criticism from animal-rights activists for flaunting online images of herself posed with the carcasses of a giraffe and other wildlife she killed during a recent guided hunt in South Africa.

Sabrina Corgatelli, an accountant for Idaho State University, appeared on NBC's "Today” show on Monday to defend trophy hunting amid mounting international outrage over last month's killing of Cecil, Zimbabwe's most famous lion, by an American dentist.

"Everybody thinks we're cold-hearted killers and it's not that," Corgatelli said in the nationally televised interview. "There is a connection to the animal, and just because we hunt them doesn’t mean we don't have a respect for them. Giraffes are very dangerous animals. They could hurt you seriously, very quickly."

......

Idaho State issued a statement on Monday distancing itself from the controversy, saying it was not a university matter.

If she loses her job at ISU, I won't be surprised.

During her interview with TODAY, Corgatelli expressed some concerns about her job, which has also become public knowledge. But she said her time off from work was approved and she’s on vacation.

"Everything I've done here is legal, so how can you fault somebody because of their hobbies?" Corgatelli said, adding that employers are always going to have employees who do things they don’t agree with in their spare time. "How can an employer chastise you for something you do on your personal time that's legally done?"

It appears that Idaho State University officials agree with her. They released the following statement on Monday:

“This is not an Idaho State University matter. While the individual in question is an employee, her personal choices are not representative of the University."

They are NOT! Even if they were, the logic follows that if everything dangerous should be shot...

Bring on the wrath. I have no pity for the likes of her.

4. Wrong. In the 1950's was a documentary about the Bushmen of the Kalahari. "The Hunters."

They were quite careful when attacking a giraffe as the animal can give a deadly kick.

I agree with the rest of your post.

If they're left alone, they aren't a danger to humans. DURRRRRRRRR.

This woman is a dumb ass and so is trophy hunting. Canned hunts are nothing but guaranteed executions.

All their rationalizations evaporate when they kill a giraffe for a trophy.

perhaps she should be shot and killed? As for giraffes, they are in their own habitat, I would think if someone was threatening them, they have a right to defend themselves, just as any wild animal would.

Video games are a hobby. Painting, comic books, collecting coins is a hobby.

Killing an innocent animal and flaunting it like a trophy is NOT a hobby.
