Texas pastor Rick Scarborough is willing to be burned to death to oppose gay marriage

He also said he'd be willing to be shot dead in defence of his views

Move over, couple who promised to get a divorce if gay marriage was legalised, because one Texas pastor has taken his opposition to marriage equality one step further.

Rick Scarborough, a Baptist pastor and Christian political activist, has said he would be willing to be burned to death in his fight against gay rights.

He made the bizarre pledge while speaking to EW Jackson, a right-wing minister and politician, on the National Emergency Coalition show, a podcast linked to Jackson's group, Staying True to America's National Destiny (STAND).

When not making boldly suicidal claims on internet radio shows, Scarborough can be found running Vision America, an organisation that aims to "inform, encourage and mobilise pastors and their congregations to be proactive in restoring Judeo-Christian values" to America.

He has previously called AIDS "God's judgement", and is the author of the 2006 book, Liberalism Kills Kids.

Something like "let you nay be nay and your yea be yea." Supposedly, that meant you are not supposed to swear or take vows, like religious vows.

Her family is fundamentalist and they quoted that to her as part of their effort to get her out of the sisterhood. And, since she is Christian, the NT would mean more to her than the OT.

Point being, one can argue Bible verses forever.

This guy's clothes look custom to me, or at least custom fitted. I don't see him self-immolating to protest any time soon. Not that I think he should. I think he should stop lying, though.

Might as well take the opportunity to learn a little...

Who doesn't love that nice warm feeling we get sitting in front of an open fire, reading a book and sipping some hot chocolate? Many fireplaces sit unused though, because these days there's a lot people don't understand about firewood in Pearland TX. With those super easy chemical logs, you can just light the paper and have it burn for hours, not having to worry about adding more Pearland Texas firewood, or moving the logs around. But fifteen to twenty dollars for a box of chemical logs might not be the best investment, and do you really want just that one log burning in the fireplace, instead of a whole pile of Pearland TX firewood?

So what should we know about firewood in Pearland Texas? Most folks know that good Pearland TX firewood should be seasoned. That means since it was cut from the tree, it's been sitting in a dry spot for at least a year. The alternative to that is green wood, which certainly isn't as good for burning. So how do we go about buying seasoned firewood in Pearland Texas? Well that bundle you pick up at the grocery store seems pretty convenient, but that's a pricey convenience.

The standard bulk measurement for firewood in Pearland TX, a cord, can be made into about 160 to 180 bundles of Pearland Texas firewood. Those bundles you pick up at the grocery store run at about five dollars. 160 bundles at 5 dollars each is $800. That, in case you don't know, is a very expensive cord of firewood in Pearland TX.All the cost of checking the quality of the Pearland Texas firewood, shipping it, separating it out, packaging it, plus the store's markup adds to the cost you pay for the convenience of picking your Pearland TX firewood up at the end of your grocery run.

When they are not making shit up about gay people controlling weather, causing random accidents, and other such nonsense, they try to outdo each other on who is the most against gay rights.

Meanwhile, the poor stay poor, the hungry stay hungry, and they ignore that. The ONLY thing they say is a sin any more is being gay, transgender, or a woman who wants control over her own body.

No one is threatening to burn him to death. He made that shit up to try to outdo the next homophobe. Unless he does it to himself, that is not even on the table.

Now, if he decides to do it to himself, more power to him. That would honestly fascinate me. I could watch him burn down to embers and it wouldn't bother me one bit. I'm not nice like the other gay people here. Living in the most deranged part of the Bible Belt has made me completely cold and downright antagonistic toward homophobes. There are many in my hometown who think I am the antichrist and I let them, because it protects me. They went from raping me in the name of God when I was younger to being afraid of me now. Good.

If he set himself on fire over gay rights, I wouldn't piss on him to put him out. Maybe he can get some of his followers to join him. If he hates us that much, let him burn.

I gotta run to the grocery store anyhow. Some Smores sounds good right about now. Let's get this party started.

Of course, he won't self immolate though. The ones who talk all that shit never follow through on their machismo bullshit, unfortunately.

One simple thing these ass-hats fail to say or believe is that gay marriage has absolutely nothing to do with the holy religious marriage of one man and one woman...the crock of shit idea spread by mean-spirited bigots who haven't a clue what their "holy book" actually says...

but if he believes in this idiot value, then he should do what the monks did in Vietnam----------------that was conviction----------------

When the first of the many Buddhists believed in non-violence, he sat down in the middle of a Saigon street doused himself with gas to protest the corrupt government and lighted himself on fire.

Does this bigot have a date and time set------------------because my money says that the corrupt money he is making off his cloth of hypocrisy is more important to him than what Huckless is doing selling his snake oil, on t.v----------they all come from the same cloth----------------greed---------------and they have no conviction like those monks-------------none.

I just can't imagine if some of his followers would do the same thing if told----------this individual has no credibility to lead a wet paper bag----------------he is Jim Jones------from all indications-----------anjd he has a tub with grape Kool-Aid he wants to hand out

84. Scarborough's Theology Tainted With The Stench Of Right-Wing Christer-anity
Sat Jun 20, 2015, 10:15 AM
Jun 2015

Preacher Scarborough's theology is tainted with the stench of right-wing Christer-anity, the pseudo-doctrine that holds that to feed the hungry is by gutting government nutrition programs, to heal the sick is done by supporting rural and inner-city health clinic closures, to clothe the naked is best done by piling scorn and humiliation on those who need it, to welcome the stranger is best done by massive race-based police dragnets and deportations, and to house the homeless is done by cutting funds for housing assistance programs. Considering how much attention Scarborough and his ilk pay to the alleged perils of gays and how little they pay to the issues of racism and violence, I believe there is more than ample reason to question what sorts of Christians they are, or if they are even Christians at all.

But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

'The "True Death" is a term that refers to the ultimate destruction of an otherwise immortal being, such as a vampire or a Maenad.

In vampire politics, only certain vampires have the authority to command the True Death on other vampires.'

VERY apropos, too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bonfire_of_the_Vanities

The story is a drama about ambition, racism, social class, politics, and greed in 1980s New York City.

The title is a reference to the historical Bonfire of the Vanities, which happened in 1497 in Florence, Italy, when the city was under the rule of the Dominican priest Girolamo Savonarola. The book's title is evidently a reference to the vanities of New York society of the 1980s and appears to also be influenced by Ecclesiastes: the phrase 'vanity of vanities, all is vanity' is from Ecclesiastes, 1:2. Both Ecclesiastes and The Bonfire of the Vanities have similar themes involving the lack of control anyone has over their lives regardless of their wealth, wisdom, or success.

But I firmly believe in the traditional definition of a bonfire: WOOD and more WOOD. Flesh can fire up other flesh, but wood should fire up wood.

It's perfideous to suggest that wood and flesh should be immolated together. That is not God's plan. She told us so in Genesis.
