Why is our society on the one hand urging people to stop hating their bodies, and on the other hand to obsess about, cut, slice, enlarge, shrink and/or amputate any part of their body that doesn't fit their subjective or societal standards of what they think they should look like? What about this: Mental Disorder Behind Many Nose Job Patients Many of the people who get nose jobs have a mental illness in which they obsess over a mostly imaginary bodily flaw, a new Belgian study suggests. People with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) can't stop obsessing over their appearance , and they have an exaggerated perception of a flaw that is either minor or completely imagined. This excessive preoccupation can get in the way of daily activities, and some BDD sufferers refuse to leave their homes for fear that others will see their flaw. Over a period of 16 months, researchers from the University Hospitals Leuven in Belgium distributed BDD questionnaires and other surveys to 266 patients seeking rhinoplasty. Twenty percent of the patients had already undergone a previous rhinoplasty. The study results suggested that 33 percent of the patients had moderate to severe symptoms of BDD. The figure rose to 43 percent among patients who were seeking rhinoplasty solely for aesthetic reasons without any functional goals, such as fixing a deviated septum. By comparison, moderate to severe BDD symptoms were found in just 2 percent of patients undergoing nasal surgery strictly for medicalreasons. The severity of BDD symptoms was unrelated to the actual appearance of the nose, according to an objective evaluation of each patient's nasal shape. Many patients who were highly concerned about their appearance had only minor defects or none, the study authors said. Symptoms of BDD are especially common in patients with previous plastic surgery or mental health issues, according to the authors. Or that people who expressed the slightest transgender interest can't be LEGALLY discriminated against? Or that you can't be legally EVICTED simply for being trans?

Over half of all LGBTQ murders are committed against transwomen. Murder rate for trans people is 1/12.

Over 41% of all trans people have ATTEMPTED suicide

Transpeople can be legally FIRED and EVICTED just for being trans in some states

Transpeople can who are homeless (because they were legally evicted) can be denied access to homeless shelters

Transpeople have been killed just for being telling someone they were trans

Over 21% of transpeople get incarcerated and transpeople of color have a 47% chance

Once in jail transpeople are often thrown in with the sex they DON't identify with and are sexually assaulted (1/3)

To avoid sexual assault those that are NOT thrown in with the general population are put in solidary confinement...something used for punishment and often called torture.

The AVERAGE lifespan for a transwoman is only 30-32years of age.

Nearly half Transpeople who go to the police for help often are mistreated just for asking for help.

No, YOU and the jury that let your remarks stand don't understand anything. Least of all privilege, especially given your transphobic remarks.

especially in a hyper-capitalist society where everything is commiditized and sold to people who are often easily manipulated and not very bright, is like expecting to flap your arms and fly to the moon.

One of the nice things about being Asperger's is that it is very hard to be sold something trivial. We are relentlessly logical types - think Spock or Data - and something either has a useful function or it doesn't, at least 99% of the time
