He came off very down to earth and we'll informed. Believes in evolution, global warming, negotiations over war. If he keeps it up, and manages to win the R nomination, he could easily beat Hillary imo.

(115,674 posts)the GOP will never nominate him. So I'm not too worried about any Democrat vs. Rand Paul.

(21,925 posts)as though she had authorized use of force as the nation's top diplomat as Secretary of State. I'm not a complete Clinton supporter but I wasn't aware she was the commander in chief or worked in the Pentagon. When did she order troops into combat? I can't believe Tweety let Rand Paul get away with such baseless generalities without asking for specific details.

(99,710 posts)By touting Paul he creates dissension among Republicans and when he doesn't get the nomination his devotees might be upset and not support the party and look elsewhere.

(50,290 posts)"Paul, who is announcing a presidential run on Tuesday, is an anti-government extremist and a climate change denier. Just last April, he said he is "not sure anybody exactly knows why" the climate is changing. He went on to call the science "not conclusive" and complain about "alarmist stuff." If you're wondering what he means by "alarmist stuff," in 2011, while arguing for a bill that would prevent the EPA from regulating carbon emissions, Paul said, "If you listen to the hysterics,
you would think that the Statue of Liberty will shortly be under water and the polar bears are all drowning, and that we're dying from pollution. It's absolutely and utterly untrue." Paul went on to assert that children are being misled into believing that "pollution" has gotten "a lot worse," when "It's actually much better now." Paul, of course, was conflating conventional air pollutionlike sulfur dioxide, which has declined in the USand climate pollution, which is cumulative and global, and therefore gets worse every year, even if America's annual emissions drop."

(362 posts)He's against abortion rights, supports free market totally, doesn't believe in governmental control over the environment, opposes all gun control legislation, and go ahead and look up "Aqua Buddha" for a laugh. And coordinated with Mitch McCnnell on the government shut-down. In 1998 he supported privatizing Social Security. He supported the Cliven Bundy siege. Says believing in a right to health care means you believe in slavery. And said that for every person in Kentucky who signed up for Obamacare, 40 lost their coverage.
And then there is that ridiculous permanent.

(84,711 posts)this Sunday. If he Fillibusters long enough the whole Patriot Act will Expire and there won't be time for the "Freedom Act" which PBO is pushing to get a vote so it dies, also.......
I can't stand Rand Paul....but, if he stops the Renewal of Patriot Act and it's Weak Amendment "Freedom Act" then in this one instance: :"The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend."
But, with Rand Paul....his baggage in other views stops me from praising him but if he can shut down the "Patriot Act"...then this "Peace/Diplomacy Over War DEM" will give him a hand clap if he's successful. But, otherwise, I have no use for his other views on issues that I care about unless he manages to shut down the TPP Vote along with Patriot Act. Then he would indeed be interesting.
I doubt that will happen, though.
