Christie's 'N.J. Comeback' is a myth, Democratic assemblyman says after revenues fall short


TRENTON — The head of the Assembly's Budget Committee said today's report that revenues failed to meet expectations in the critical month of April shows that Gov. Chris Christie's "New Jersey Comeback is a myth rather than a reality."

"With unemployment at 9 percent and property taxes higher than ever, Gov. Christie needs to put this 'comeback' silliness aside and confront the harsh reality of his fiscal policies and the burden they've placed on New Jersey's middle-class and seniors," Assemblyman Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson), chair of the budget committee, said in a statement.

Preliminary figures show New Jersey's business and income tax collections for the crucial month of April have fallen short of expectations, according to a recent memorandum prepared by the nonpartisan Office of Legislative Services.

Already facing a revenue shortfall this year, the poor preliminary April figures could hamper efforts by Christie and Democratic lawmakers to deliver on competing tax cut proposals that rely on a revenue surge. ....................(more)
