Motherfucker! Colorado Repubs kill civil unions bill by running out the clock.
It was so close. The civil unions bill passed all three committees, which would under ordinary circumstances get this bill a floor vote, which was expected to pass.
Then Speaker Frank McNulty abruptly recessed the House which was coming up on the end of the session, as of midnight tonight, and thus killed the bill, along with 25 other bills that were due to come up for a vote. http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_20573772/civil-unions-bill-will-be-heard-house-committee

2. If our governor and fracker in chief had some gonads, he'd call a special session.
|
This is his leadership test right here. If he has the cojones for the job, he'd call a special session and tell the House that they're not leaving until the civil unions bill and the other 30 bills that McNulty decided to kill as collateral damage all got a vote.

they delayed their vote to test the political winds blowing out of NC. Once the results started coming in I'm sure they decided to call it a night.
I started the day hopeful as this started out a GOP iniative. I figured, if they start it why wouldn't they finish it. Then it became evident how this was going and now it looks like it's somewhere between rank cowardice and a cruel sham. |
