Why are my right-wing co-workers freaking out about registering a baby for a WH tour?

white house...i tried to find out something so i googled "white house requires babies to be registered for tour" and got a a lot of hits, all from what seem to be religious websites, moaning that they are Pro-choice to murder a baby but's a real baby if it wants to visit the white house.

As usual, the loons in my office are crying "Foul!".

Any ideas who started this story? I'm sure the why is because they think it proves something...

The article doesn't say much about it though: is this a new policy, or has it always been in place? Whose idea was it? etc...

Seems to me like just a reason for some people to find something to complain about.

It would be hugely satisfying to show them how stupid they are believing some bullshit story from their own side.

But I don't know what this policy is so I can't properly argue about it.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/tours-and-events

It says "All guests 18 years of age or older will be required to present a valid, government-issued photo identification" but not a word about those under 18.

They have a phone number one could call to possibly clarify: 202-456-7041

and this place: http://freebeacon.com/no-birth-certificate-required/

The righties in the office are all abuzz with the "good news" that Obama now considers a fetus a person who must be registered.

Sarcastically of course - what they really say is it is hypocritical. What I don't know is if they are getting their nutsacks in a twist over some bullshit story that one of theirs probably started...

I suspect they are trying to retaliate against me because earlier when I heard them complaining about the "socialist" in office I started in with the "SOCIALIST?! i haven't seen anything socialist yet! I WISH there was anything socialist going on!"

It's all good fun, just ribbing each other - but they are seriously fucked in the head about most things - but as far as THEY know, I think it's just good-natured ribbing.

for a granddaughter's birthday at CEC. It was kind of annoying at first but when I realized just how many kids are in there and then how many other people are there, I understood and even appreciated it. That place is a madhouse and would be pretty easy for some guy to just walk right out with a kid.

but I would think a fetus would have a fairly decent layer of protection - it would take sneak and lock-picking skills of over 9000 to get a fetus out of a Whitehouse tour undetected...I'm 80 hours into Skyrim and barely have level 40...

“We have received a number of calls regarding how to enter security information for a baby that has not yet been born,” Shafer wrote. “Crazy as it may sound, you MUST include the baby in the overall count of guests in the tour. It’s an easy process.”

So apparently that was in place before they took office.

Requests can be submitted up to six months in advance and no less than 21 days in advance. You are encouraged to submit your request as early as possible as a limited number of spaces are available

Combine that with the statement, it looks like this is for people requesting months ahead and expect to have an infant (born in the time between the request and the tour) with them. The prenatal registration is a place-holder to be updated after the child is born.

At least, that's my take on it, and seems like the usual security/bureaucracy rigmarole than anything else.

Point out that the rules require that all persons register. Ask them if they think that babies are not persons. Are they pro-life only when it comes to fetuses, but not when they're actually born and out in the world?

Loons, indeed.
