The North Carolina Same-Sex Marriage Amendment will appear on the May 8, 2012 ballot in the state of North Carolina as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment.
The measure would define marriage in the state constitution as between one man and one woman, and would ban any other type of "domestic legal union" such as civil unions and domestic partnerships.

(51,279 posts)If marriage is between 'one' man and 'one' woman, then they surely can't abandon the 'one' to marry another.

Looks to me as if insurance companies are looking for easy ways to deny coverage to children and domestic partners (even in mixed-sex relationships) for one thing. The first time a woman isn't protected under the domestic violence laws and folks can't get insurance for their opposite-sex partners or their children, THEN you'll hear the howling.
I will say "Don't come cryin' t'me. I told you so."
Bigots are getting suckered and the irony is almost delicious.

(52,589 posts)but have been led to think this just addresses marriage not realizing it forbids civil unions as well. Sooner or later, the sh*t will hit the fan.

(38,187 posts)They are claiming it is all lies that it will hurt straight non-married families and their children too. They are fooling people into voting for something that is going to mess up straight people and their kids as well. It is not going to be pretty. I wish people would listen to the truth and vote against Amendment 1.

(22 posts)in a couple of years. As of where I live right now, there's not much I can do; I only hope people will come to their senses and vote against this, or I'm concerned for my own future.

Trust me, the sign would be gone, (through nonviolent means of course).
