to protest the gay friendly policies at UNM. Two guys went into a soul kiss right in front of Daddy Phelps.

Westboro couldn't get out of here fast enough and canceled the rest of their "events."

The guys later told the newspaper they barely knew each other but it seemed like the right thing to do. They have never been identified.

I love this town.

Our church was holding its Annual Conference there when the Westboro brigade showed up. We're a pretty inoffensive little Christian sect, and figured that Westboro hit us as a target of opportunity. As we observed the spectacle, one of the more conservative members walked by and wondered, "They're protesting us?"

After a very short time, we decided that hateful bigotry is probably thirsty work, and it being July in Kansas City and humid as all get out, we'd do them a solid. We bought out a street vendor's stock of cold drinks (canned soda, tea, and juice) and offered one to each and every protester. We were greeted with the hostility and suspicion we expected, but persisted with a message of smiling succor. A couple of them took our drinks and we left the rest at the feet of the others. They skedaddled pretty quickly after that, but tellingly took all the soft drinks we bought for them.

Kindness kills them.

It helps if one points ones fingers, too.

But I like the (above) cool drinks in the Kansas City heat, too.

Either may work well. Why not try both.
