33 Quotes About Conservatives/Republicans That Liberals Should Know About

We all know what conservatives/Republicans are like. It’s just unfortunate that they don’t know it themselves. And if they do, that’s just sad. Many things have been said about conservatives, Republicans, and conservatism. Most of it, of course, is bad but true. Humorists, politicians, writers, journalists, comedians, and even US Presidents have left us with many quotes about the right wing. Here are just 33 of them. If you’re a liberal, these are well worth book marking. If you’re a conservative, the truth hurts, doesn’t it?

1. “Today’s so-called ‘conservatives’ don’t even know what the word means. They think I’ve turned liberal because I believe a woman has a right to an abortion. That’s a decision that’s up to the pregnant woman, not up to the pope or some do-gooders or the Religious Right. It’s not a conservative issue at all.”
~Barry Goldwater

2. “I cannot help fearing that men may reach a point where they look on every new theory as a danger, every innovation as a toilsome trouble, every social advance as a first step toward revolution, and that they may absolutely refuse to move at all.”
~Alexis de Tocqueville

3. “Conservatism is the blind and fear-filled worship of dead radicals.”
~Mark Twain

4. “Conservatism discards Prescription, shrinks from Principle, disavows Progress; having rejected all respect for antiquity, it offers no redress for the present, and makes no preparation for the future.”
~Benjamin Disraeli

5. “Have you ever wondered why Republicans are so interested in encouraging people to volunteer in their communities? It’s because volunteers work for no pay. Republicans have been trying to get people to work for no pay for a long time.”
~George Carlin

Dr Zachary Smith from Lost in Space. This sniveling wimp, who can only screw up an otherwise perfectly good plan, is the face of fear. At the same time, he shows only selfishness and egoism. He thinks highly of himself, but has no record of any achievement.

That is the picture of a conservative.

1 They shouldn’t have to be fleeced and make chumps to have to pay for perpetual unemployment and all the rest — they’ve got to be legitimate claims. - Michele Bachmann

2. ''I believe there’s about 78 to 81 members of the Democratic Party that are members of the Communist Party,” - Allen West

3. ”I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them other people’s money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn their money and provide for themselves and their families. The best way to do that is to get the manufacturing sector of the economy rolling.”
~Rick Santorum

4. If you have ever been robbed by a black teen-aged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be....Given the inefficiencies of what D.C. laughingly calls the `criminal justice system,' I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal. - Ron Paul (claims he didn't write this years after he claimed he did, unlike the source where I got this quote, I am not giving him the benefit of the doubt)

5. You can’t find another thinker or writer who did a better job of describing and laying out the moral case for capitalism than Ayn Rand.” ~Paul Ryan

6. “Give the park police more ammo.” ~Newt Gingrich, responding to a reporter who asked what to do about the homeless a few days after the police shot a homeless man in front of the White House.

7. "PETA is not happy that my dog likes fresh air." - Mitt Romney

8. "Our law enforcement agencies have found bodies in the desert either buried or just lying out there that have been beheaded," - Jan Brewer (law enforcement says they have no records of these incidents)

9. It's pretty clear that over the last three months the economy has paused. And it's also pretty clear the American people are still demanding and asking the question, 'Where are the jobs?' And the reason we don't have new jobs is because of the job-killing agenda pursued by President Obama and his allies in the Congress. -John Boehner (this one preceding no jobs bills by House Republicans in the next 3 years)

10. "Dr. Laura: don't retreat...reload!" - Sarah Palin defending Dr. Laura's racist rant.

And of course since I included 2 quotes from women, many a Republican would claim I am singling out Republican women to pick on.

That two-bit insult is a pet peeve of mine and it tells me immediately whether a person is serious about having a political discussion or is just a teabagger hack.

I love the Carlin quote because it's so relevant to current British politics:

5. “Have you ever wondered why Republicans are so interested in encouraging people to volunteer in their communities? It’s because volunteers work for no pay. Republicans have been trying to get people to work for no pay for a long time.”
~George Carlin

Just about sums up David Cameron's 'Big Society' concept!

18. “The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.”
~John Kenneth Galbraith

Too true!

~John Kenneth Galbraith

It was many years ago when I came to realize the same thing.
I seriously wondered if they are born selfish and simply spend their lives trying to find a way to justify it as "OK".

They would say your quote shows that Liberals are naive and Conservatives smart.

A President of the Indiana Right-to-Life said something similar about Liberals believing that most people are good and that government should help people while Conservatives know that people are inherently evil and need God's law to control them.

I'm a little troubled that I can't find the source for the quote, but it does sound like him, and I do think it hits the nail on the head.

The corollary to leaving work up to volunteers is of course leaving relying on charitable donations -- i.e., people's disposable income, given or withheld by choice and individual decision -- to address the world's problems.

Totally false reasoning and and far from moral, she is the best by far!
