(146,248 posts)They use a scoop, like an ice cream scoop to dip it out of a stainless steel tray sitting in a hot water bath. That measures the amount used in each taco. I watch them do it as my food is prepared when I order Taco Bell.

(43,049 posts)I haven't eaten in a Taco Bell since the last time they gave me the runs, but back then I saw the hose in play.
I don't doubt they got rid of the hose-- it looked like something horrific to clean.

(146,248 posts)Taco Bell was. In fact, I ate there often. They are still using the same methods for filling tacos they used then. The meat tastes exactly the same. The cheese tastes exactly the same. The seasonings are exactly the same. The only difference, really, is that they've introduced a lot more menu items, but they're all assembled on the same line that has always been there. Everyone handling food wears plastic gloves, and they're changed every time they step away from the food line.
I don't use drive-throughs. I stand in front of the counter. I watch the workers create the items. I've been eating Taco Bell crunchy tacos and bean burritos for 40 years or more. That's what I order, and I watch them being made. I've never seen a "meat hose" in any Taco Bell. Nope.
What's there are poorly-paid workers assembling menu items in a line. They take exactly the same steps each time for each item. I've watched them do it for decades. It's very efficient, very clean, and very fast. If you got the runs from Taco Bell, you went to a place that isn't following the standards. I've never gotten the runs from Taco Bell, and I've ordered food in dozens and dozens of Taco Bells.
Once, I went into one and saw some questionable food handling practices. I called out the manager on it. The manager cursed at me. So, I contacted Taco Bell corporate. After a few phone calls, they shut down that franchise. Six months later, it re-opened with a new owner.
You don't like Taco Bell food. That's cool. Don't go there. But your "meat hose" nonsense is just that: nonsense.

(146,248 posts)never has been. Stuff like "sour cream" and other fluid ingredients are in containers with a hand pump. Other ingredients are in trays on the food assembly line, where they are scooped out or hand measured (lettuce, tomatoes and cheese) by glove-wearing workers. The line is super efficient, moves very fast, and maintains very strict portion control. It's been planned, rehearsed, and fine-tuned over the years, but has always been the same.
I've been in more Taco Bells than I can count, starting with the original first franchise in California the week it opened. There's no "meat hose."

(146,248 posts)Taco Bell is fast food. It is what it is. It's not Mexican food. I love Mexican food, and have eaten outstanding Mexican food in restaurants all over the United State and Mexico. Taco Bell is just fast food. I like it fine when I'm in the mood for fast food, but I pretty much always order just their regular crunchy tacos and their simplest bean burrito. The meat? It's seasoned beef, with a bit of oatmeal flour and seasonings in it. I've seen the ingredient list. I know what each thing on that list is. It's OK. It's not how I make taco meat, but it's edible and reliable in flavor.
Taco Bell is OK fast food. But it is fast food. I eat fast food once a week, at most. Often that's Taco Bell. There's one near me. Occasionally, I'll eat a Whopper Jr. from Burger King. That's about it for me. I read the other day, though, that they're opening the first In-N-Out Burger here in Minnesota. Now that will move me down the street a ways when I want fast food.

Dihydrogen monoxide hoax
"Dihydrogen monoxide" redirects here. For the H2O molecule, see Properties of water.
The subject of the hoax, water molecules, consist of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.
The dihydrogen monoxide hoax involves calling water by the unfamiliar chemical name "dihydrogen monoxide" (DHMO), and listing some of water's effects in an alarming manner, such as the fact that it accelerates corrosion and can cause severe burns. The hoax often calls for dihydrogen monoxide to be regulated, labeled as hazardous, or banned. It illustrates how the lack of scientific literacy and an exaggerated analysis can lead to misplaced fears.[1]
The hoax gained renewed popularity in the late 1990s when a 14-year-old student collected anti-DHMO petitions for a science project about gullibility. The story has since been used in science education to encourage critical thinking.
