At Christian Fashion Week, Modesty Is One Policy

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/02/style/at-christian-fashion-week-modesty-is-their-policy.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=photo-spot-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news

JoJo Shaw (center), 34, of Tampa, Fla., bowed her head in a backstage prayer. Leading the prayer, Mayra Gomez, a founder of Christian Fashion Week, asked for everyone on the runway to be safe and for God to allow everyone in the audience to be open-minded about what Christian fashion is all about.

TAMPA, Fla. — As Tom Ford presented his fall 2015 collection in the modern Sodom of Los Angeles, and Marc Jacobs tended his “garden in hell” in Gotham-Gomorrah, around 300 Christians were gathering here for a fashion extravaganza of their own.

There were no buyers from Bergdorf Goodman, or celebrities moving in slow security phalanxes. But Jayson and Silva Emerian, a Presbyterian couple from Fresno, Calif., were among the spectators Feb. 20 at the Vault, a bank turned party space downtown. “I’m just here to support my wife,” said Mr. Emerian, a general contractor.

The issue of feminine modesty has bedeviled Christian Fashion Week, as it is known, though this year the runway show was confined to one evening. The rest is a series of parties, panels and prayer circles, founded three years ago by two other married couples: Jose Gomez, an entrepreneur who, among many other projects, helps churches amp up their Web presence; Mayra Gomez, a former model who once appeared on Janice Dickinson’s reality show and now runs TruModel, a mentoring program for young women; Tamy Lugo, a stylist; and Wil Lugo, a graphic designer.

And I strongly suspect everyone who was in attendance was more than open-minded about 'what Christian fashion is all about'.

If anything was ripe for satire and editorial photos, it's this.

People dropping everything to bow their heads so often. In Islam I believe they use their Prayer rugs three times a day, but it seems Christians have to bow their heads at every occasion though out the day.. its almost like they are fearful of doing anything or living without asking permission from the Almighty... Idk, is it me, or do they seem obsessive with this?

so much of what these types think and do is centered around being judgmental and controlling/interfering with others lives.

Since they spend so little real time doing honest introspection and self examination and questioning they NEED to focus their attention on others and also on external stuff like this.

In Buddhism we focus within, because that's where our spiritually is. Clearing the mind from the outside world to be one with all of the world, from the inside out. It really is a refreshing, regenerating thing to mediate and use a mantra to clear your every single thought away.

The Insecurity is having to go about recruiting someone to your cause, so you feel better about it, while as, in Buddhism, they don't try to convert anyone. Its your choice, to join us or not. People seek our religion, not the other way around, and there is no one pushing a book or pamphlet in your face, demanding that you need to join, or else!!

I'm sure there's a big market out there amongst women of all ages, sizes, and faiths/non-faiths for attractive clothes that are not as crazy or revealing as runway fashion. I would ordinarily be part of that target market. But when the very first thing they throw out there is that this is CHRISTIAN FASHION, and they are praying that people will be open-minded about it, then I'm not going to investigate their product any further.

group think, and tendency to police other people's thoughts, words and deeds.

If they could, they'd have 'X-tian dress codes' imposed in all public venues.
