Overheard: A group of conservatives whinging over 2016

I admit, if Schadenfreude had a color, I was probably glowing.
They were all so upset about how no one worth a shit was running and that another bush was going to be the GOTP pick.
As they went down the list of their befallen heroes that no longer had a snowball's chance in Hell, they became so disheartened, they could barely muster the energy to bash Hillary.
But they still had enough left in them to use several choice words for Obama.

Next year by this time they'll be yucking it up for Jeb. They'll say "He's not his brother or his father." He'll promise them tax breaks, religious freedom, guns for everyone, more oil production here, and god back in schools.

In 2008 and 2012, the GOP establishment favored a candidate who was the least conservative among the major contenders. In each case, the party elite told the right-wing base that this more "moderate" candidate was more electable than any of their conservative heroes. In each case, the party elite prevailed, securing the nomination for its supposedly more electable candidate. In each case, that candidate lost.

Some of the conservatives are tired of this. Their view is that an unrelentingly conservative GOP ticket (Cruz/Pence or the like) would motivate the party's base, would bring to the polls millions of patriotic Americans who are disgusted with both major parties, and would get 55% of the popular vote.

There is a sentiment of "I'm not voting for any more RINOs." The theory is that to keep voting for RINOs in the general election is to ensure that RINOs will keep getting the nomination. If Jeb is the nominee, I think some of these people can be encouraged to stay home, to leave the President line blank, to write in Ronald Reagan, or to vote third party. We can hope that Cruz and Paul candidacies will highlight Jeb's departures from right-wing orthodoxy (e.g. immigration).
