Police departments hiring immigrants as officersby Alan Gomez at USA Today

Most agencies in the country require officers or deputies to be U.S. citizens, but some are allowing immigrants who are legally in the country to wear the badge. From Hawaii to Vermont, agencies are allowing green-card holders and legal immigrants with work permits to join their ranks.
At a time when 25,000 non-U.S. citizens are serving in the U.S. military, some feel it's time for more police and sheriff departments to do the same. That's why the Nashville Police Department is joining other departments to push the state legislature to change a law that bars non-citizens from becoming law enforcement officers.
Department spokesman Don Aaron said they want immigrants who have been honorably discharged from the military to be eligible for service.
"Persons who have given of themselves in the service to this country potentially have much to offer Tennesseans," he said. "We feel that ... would benefit both the country and this city."

(118,577 posts)that small police forces were hiring bad apples in their desperation to find candidates. Maybe this will help.

(29,322 posts)means you are in the same labor pool but with a Green Card which basically allows very similar or about the same labor rights US citizens are entitled too. Small police forces from a state like Vermont & reading this much into it regarding desperation to hire "bad apples" in desperation to find candidates. Vermont has a very bad per capita Heroin problem but probably ranks lower than Denver overall in problems created.
Not sure, but you could be reading way too much into this and outside the basic details, not nearly as problematic as Apple, Microsoft, etc in H1B1 Visa which as more direct as to why "salaries are so low" and the lack of labor rights has A LOT to do with this.

(29,322 posts)Especially the 3%, they'd love to use this but I hope they don't learn about this but it takes a couple of things they're claiming and directly bring the two together. First the claim the sneaky tyranny starts with coming with the guns then the next one is allowing the immigrants to be let over into the red states so they can later vote against those stopping the sneaky tyranny.
If this story is true & USA Today is willing to risk their name with the story (how much is that worth though nowadays?) but immigrants being signed up for police officers.
You'd have to understand, I just watched the VICE documentary on unregulated militias in the US such as the 3% & how heavily they base it on warped propaganda conspiracy theories. Please don't take my post as judgment with you posting which I have no problem with, they'd also certainly can't wait to use this in their propaganda. Look out how Nashville responds to the "problem", very similar in the line of thinking.
However what is wrong the Green Card specifically? Green Card entitles to the same or very similar labor rights as US citizens. H1B1 Visas are far more problematic in these areas. Legal immigrants with work permits. I don't see this as problematic specifically but that won't matter with them because of "how it looks".
