Public urinators get "pee-back" in Germany

Residents of a German neighborhood known for its bars and nightclubs have a warning for drunk people who are too lazy to find a bathroom: “Don’t pee here. We pee back.”

That’s the message on signs that have been put up in the popular St. Pauli district of Hamburg. But people living in the community aren’t going to be the ones urinating on the area’s revelers. They’ve applied a liquid-repelling paint to walls throughout the community, which splashes urine back onto the tinkler.

The neighborhood association created the above video, “St. Pauli Pees Back,” to get the word out about the anti–public urination efforts. Along with footage of residents painting walls and expressing their disgust with folks who take a whiz wherever they please, the video also shows peeing passersby getting a taste of their own medicine.

Nearly 20 million people per year come to party on St. Pauli’s Reeperbahn. While it’s great that they’re walking off their drinks instead of jumping behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, the smell they leave behind is disgusting. “On the streets here, it’s like being in a sewer,” Julia Staron, a spokeswoman for the neighborhood association, told Spiegel.

You're totally correct in that assessment based on my own life experience with dogs and children (and even Soldiers in the Army).

A dog will only do what you let them get away with. The same is true with the rest.
