Hey I know what we can do---let's employ Republican tactics and talk about other things Hillary has done that errr have nothing to do with the original non-scandal.
How fucking Republican!

(32,886 posts)that the accusations were B.S. I have no idea why folks continued to push it after that.
Wait, scratch that, I do know why they pushed it. But folks who did should still be regarded as non-credible.

(28,184 posts)Laugh all you want that it is not Java-based, though newer versions interact with Java.
If you work in a multi-national firm that has thousands of servers, while folks can develop code as quickly using RAD-type tools, when there is a problem, you'll have a team of people trying to figure out issues with complex two-phase commit transactions--especially if they are crossing machines and platforms.
Let's not bring in the cost of ownership with having server farms when it comes to disaster recovery planning and the extended downtime during recovery, the lack of adequate performance monitoring, security, auditing, and dianostics... but hey... it's the future, so it must be better.
oh, product development... 1/4th the implementation time to deliver.
Let's not forget that 2nd world countries are only teaching Java now, so they can offshore US data centers.
===
Snark follows:
Oh, but we can take the code that costs hundreds of millions of dollars to develop and rewrite it in Java, having systems as stable as Healthcare.gov... just so we can be fashionable. The system's work, they are rock solid and have been performance tuned, running on systems that can workload balance them at a transactional level... but let's rewrite them just for shits and giggles. Let's spend billions toing this... just to be fashionable.

(81,220 posts)on the government, could be at least partly to blame? If we're trying to shrink government down so small we can drown it in a bathtub, then maybe we need to stop doing that so relentlessly? It costs money to get new computers and up-to-date equipment, AND to STAY up-to-date with all the technology that seems to update itself every minute on the minute...
That does take funding. It takes funding for equipment and funding to hire people to do this, run this, install this, troubleshoot this, and patrol this - helping the State Dept people learn it and work with it without fucking up too much, and keep it updated - AS WELL AS the increasingly critical monitoring of it for security purposes and protect it from hackers.
That takes money.
Nothing is free.

(1,127 posts)The Daily Beast has apparently published a report that substantially undermines the NYT story on Hillary Clinton's email habits while at State. Fair enough, we'll let that play out.
Fact:
Because she didn't abuse the email rules doesn't mean she didn't vote for the Patriot Act (like a Republican);
Didn't vote for the Iraq War (like a Republican);
Didn't push the Keystone XL pipeline (like a Republican);
And isn't in bed with Goldman Sachs and their criminal friends.
Like a Republican.
This is what passes for a Democrat these days.

(31,849 posts)all of her UN-republican like votes ... votes most of interest to, and in line with, the non-activist Democratic base.
Wait ... I'm not support to distinguish between the "activist base" and the Democratic Base. Sorry.

(43,867 posts)I realize 'progressives' have trouble with strategy, but here's how it works.
1. Expose the people pointing fingers who've done the same thing as hypocrites. CHECK!
2. Examine the source for factual inaccuracies and omissions. CHECK!
3. Point to the other sources pushing the story and their motives. CHECK
4. Make the case there was no wrongdoing, CHECK and DONE.

No idea what your point is in the rest of your mess, but you seem to think highly of losing your mind. At the same time you were in super-defensive mode, level headed people were saying the things you figured out 12 hours later. Like a rabid skunk, you don't know what to attack first. By all means, pat your self on the back.

(12,754 posts)She sent state department emails on unsecure servers
She commingled personal and government emails
She's letting her staff decide what the government deserves to see
Sounds pretty irresponsible to me
Doesn't sound like a leader
I've been working with email for decades. I have never mixed personal and business on the same account. If you do, you end up with a mess like this. Not to mention that it exposes sensitive messages to hackers.
The Hillary supporters who are twisting themselves into knots trying to figure out how to extract her from this sound more like Republicans when they were defending every misstep of the Bush administration.

(73,536 posts)a few rational, objective OP/posts about the new "crisis." (My OP is an outstanding example.) It is generally better to wait until you know what you are talking about, before taking any position on such things. Even if the NY Times reports on a "breaking" news story like this, one should take the time required to access it, based upon more than a handful of initial reports.
But, the quiet voice of reason is usually drown out on DU:GD these days. Those who strongly support and/or oppose Hillary Clinton make their views known, on sometimes mildly entertaining threads. But there is plenty of loud, aggressive nonsense, too.
(By the way, all reports indicate that Floyd's camp is solid, and the Champ is really dedicated to making a statement on May 2. I recommend that you drive north for the weekend.)

(111,249 posts)because we know the NSA has been monitoring Congress and presumably all other parts of government, also. Using a mass market account would accomplish one thing: hiding a needle in a haystack. The NSA would pay attention to the "important, official" accounts. A private account would get lost in the general noise.
