Almost no TV or Radio presence, and no money went into it yet Chuy is still within striking distance.

Rahm sitting on $9 million, and the business community will shower him with millions more,

Garcia's job will be to have enough money to get his message out, and to withstand the shit Rahm will throw his way. And that's where we can help him. If you are local in the Windy City, consider volunteering. Everyone else, take a look at what Rahm Emanuel has done to our party and progressive politics over the past decade, and then say "fuck you" by throwing $3 into Garcia's campaign.

You want a better Democratic Party? These primaries are the place to make that happen.

Sunday, February 22, 2015 | News

The editorial board of the Chicago Jewish Star has endorsed County Commissioner Jesus 'Chuy' Garcia for Mayor of Chicago, four years after endorsing Rahm Emanuel in 2011.

The Star's editors noted:

"The Emanuel machine, as Grabel and Simpson noted in Corrupt Illinois, is now the oligarch's roundtable of 'secret wealthy individuals and corporations.' A February 1 report by the Chicago Tribune described in detail how the Emanuel 'political cash machine' works. Donors make contributions to the campaign and —amazing to say — they 'frequently receive City Hall benefits."

The Star continued, "It is baffling how the Sun-Times and Tribune, which have both done service in exposing the Emanuel machine and corruption in city government in general, should nonetheless offer such fulsome endorsements of his candidacy."

Commissioner Garcia "holds more promise to be able to move Chicago away from its machine-mentality of government ... We endorse Mr. Garcia for Mayor."

WESTMONT –
By a vote of its Executive Board, the Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT) has endorsed Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia for Mayor of Chicago in the February 24th Municipal Election.

Elected leaders of the 100,000-member organization said that Garcia is the best candidate to fight for the high-quality public schools and services our children deserve.

"Throughout his career, Chuy has been devoted to working with teachers and students to ensure they have the tools they need to succeed,” said Dan Montgomery, President of the Illinois Federation of Teachers. “We share his commitment to thriving public schools, fewer high-stakes standardized tests, and an elected, representative school board. Chuy will be a strong voice for all of Chicago’s families, and we're proud to support his campaign."

"I'm honored to receive the IFT's endorsement because they are the people on the front lines every single day providing a brighter future for every child," said mayoral candidate Jesus "Chuy" Garcia.

"You guys don't need a rundown on Rahm's escapades. He was virulently anti-immigration when running the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and was essentially the reason the issue didn't move forward during Obama's first term when he served as the president's chief of staff. He once said that liberals were "fucking retarded" for wanting to push the president to the left. He was Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner's biggest ally in bailing out the banks with zero reciprocity for taxpayers.

About the best thing that could be said about Rahm's mayoralship was that it got him the fuck away from D.C., and good riddance. But that still leaves the little problem of that asshole screwing up Chicago, and that's not fair to our nation's third largest city where the mayor has closed 50 public schools while focusing his efforts on the downtown business core while ignoring its vibrant neighborhoods. He truly is a mayor for the 1 percent. So how about we help boot his ass into the private sector?

City reformers and activists have coalesced around Cook County Commissioner Jesus 'Chuy' Garcia. (You want to learn about him, this is a great piece.) The Chicago Teacher's Union is enthusiastically backing Garcia, and has polling to support its efforts.

Rahm is far from the 50 percent he needs to avoid a runoff during this February primary, which is shocking given his near-universal name ID. He's sitting on $9 million, and the business community will shower him with millions more, but he's built little goodwill or core base of support during his first term. Garcia, a long-time community organizer, was a city council supporter of groundbreaking Mayor Harold Washington, later ousted by the Daley machine, the same machine now backing Rahm.

MoveOn Endorses Garcia In Chicago Mayor's Race
MoveOn.org Political Action has endorsed Cook County Commissioner Jesus "Chuy" Garcia in the Chicago mayor's race, the progressive group announced Thursday.

Garcia garnered 57 percent of the votes cast by Chicago MoveOn members during the group's voting process, which kicked off Tuesday and ended earlier today.

Incumbent Rahm Emanuel won 20 percent of the membership vote, Ald. Robert Fioretti (2nd) received 18 percent and businessman Willie Wilson earned 4 percent.

"There's a deep desire to replace Rahm Emanuel with a progressive mayor, and MoveOn members are saying clearly that Chuy Garcia is that candidate," MoveOn.org Political Action's Executive Director Ilya Sheyman said in a statement. "Chuy Garcia has fought time and time again on behalf of working Chicagoans as an elected official and community organizer and has the vision needed to bring real progressive change to Chicago. Incumbent Rahm Emanuel spent his first term looking out for corporate interests and those at the very top--at the expense of students, working people, and neighborhoods across Chicago."

In its announcement, MoveOn included comments about Garcia from a few of its Chicago members:

Chuy Garcia will be a mayor for everyone in Chicago, not just the rich people. He respects the value of our public institutions, including our public schools, and won't spend his time trying to sell our city to the highest bidder. --Faith S.

He is an honest and committed progressive community leader, has been a community organizer, but also has extensive government and political experience as alderman (under Harold Washington), state senator and county board member. His 30-year+ record speaks for itself. He is just what Chicago needs to get out of government-for-the-1% it is now. Let's get our city back.--Joanna B.

Chuy Garcia is the real deal. He's a bridge builder between brown and black communities, understands the value of neighborhood development and local schools. He's ethical and experienced in bringing wasteful, corrupt government ... back into line. He's the only progressive candidate with the experience, resources and allies needed to mount a viable alternative to our current mayor, who has
squandered the goodwill and the resources of the city. Chuy is the leader Chicago needs now! --Maureen K.
