Watching CNN's documentary about Rodney King.
Wow, this brings back so many memories! I was so horrified by both the verdict and it's resulting violence.
But I am also concerned that a similar situation will erupt if Zim gets off scott free.

7. You know it though! It seriously looks to me like they are setting up to let this guy off.
|
If that happens, we are in for one shit storm big time and maybe rightly so. There is absolutely no reason that Zimmerman can claim SYG IMHO. He was carrying a gun, and stalking Trayvon and then things went bad. Trayvon was murdered in cold blood and there is no question in my mind.

2. I really don't think anything like 1992 could happen because of Zimmerman
|
That's not saying major riots couldn't happen for another reason, but I don't see it here.
1992 was very much about a set of grievances against the police in Los Angeles. These tensions had been brewing for years. A Zimmerman acquittal would cause mostly peaceful marches and maybe some boycotts. There would be some scattered violence and looting, but I don't think a whole lot. And most of that would be caused by opportunistic hooligans. People wouldn't be happy about the verdict, but I think the reaction would mostly be peaceful. |

Early on the reporting was absolutely terrible, in a way that fed the anger. The extent to which violence may result from a not guilty verdict might depend on how much evidence there is against Zimmerman. The stronger the prosecution's case, the more likely an innocent verdict will piss people off.

3. Yeah. That footage of Rodney King pleading for calm is tough to watch. Had my back purposely turned

when they showed the beating and the resulting violence.
