GOP strategist: Women don’t make less money than men
By Andrew Jones - RawStory Sunday, April 29, 2012 12:56 EDT
<snip> Republican strategist Alex Castellanos denied Sunday morning the actual fact that women in America make less than men from work. In a roundtable discussion on NBC’s Meet The Press, Castellanos displayed signs of disagreement when MSNBC host Rachel Maddow mentioned the statistic that women make 77 cents for every dollar as their male counterparts. Noticing Castellanos’ discomfort, Maddow pressed the strategist on his viewpoint. “Women don’t make less than men?” she asked. “Actually if you start looking at the numbers Rachel, um, there’s lots of reasons for that,” Castellanos replied. “Wait wait, no, don’t tell me the reasons why, do women make less than men?” Maddow pressed. “Um, no,” Castellanos said, before later dismissing Maddow’s current emotions. “I wish you were as right about what you’re saying as you are passionate about it,” he said. “I really do.” <snip> Link: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/04/29/gop-strategist-women-dont-make-less-money-than-men/

5. How can it be Obama's policy when before he was born
|
Women made and still does less than men. If he going to try to sell his lies to me it will never happen. I guess it is Obama's policy to have sharia like laws being introduced in many states. And by men I might add. American women will rise up against "sharia laws" we will not take misguided laws aimed at us.

"My passion on this issue, is actually me making factual arguments." Mostly, I think he was right and she was wrong. I still believe the 77 cents to the dollar is a nonsense statistic which merely compares median incomes to median incomes by various classes and ASSUMES that there is no other reason for a variation between medians than discrimination. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/47078102/ns/business-careers/t/women-make-cents-each-made-men/ http://www.pay-equity.org/ (note the link to the pdf file there gets the 77 cents figure by comparing medians - just like I said. Again that just assumes that the median will factor out all other factors like different employers, different amouts of education, or experience, different amounts of lobbying or aggression (sometimes people get higher pay because they push, push, push for it), etc. It is simply NOT an apples to apples comparison.) It is a nonsense statistic comparing pay without using a baseline of equal work. Even beyond that, in the final analysis it is hard to compare "equal work". Take last night at my job. There were four of us working. We worked equal hours, but was our work really equal? There's no good way to compare. For example, I picked up the dance floor by myself. That's some heavy lifting there. Of the forty wood tables that went to the gym, I moved twenty of them by myself and assisted with the rest. That's 1200 pounds of lifting and hauling and setting down that I did. It's not like we divide things up equally, where each worker takes 10 tables or 7.5 squares of the dance floor. I note that, because when I had women co-workers, they got equal pay, but they didn't do equal amounts of lifting. But that is true of some of the men too. Scott used to complain about Kate, and it is true that he could outlift her, but Kate was a way better worker than him even if she could only roll or lift one table at a time instead of two. Probably 90% of the job does not involve lifting. But I am sure that people will respond with factual arguments rather than with |
