The center has been pulled way over to the right - "Their" definition of compromise is conversion.
Last night I watched an interview of Marty Kaplan by Bill Moyers. It opened my eyes like few other interviews. I then set about looking up Marty Kaplan, and found it. It sums up some very crucial ideas about this terrifying time we're living in, in which we've had right wing ideology dominating our lives for the past 32 years.
Here it is: http://billmoyers.com/content/show-preview-marty-kaplan-on-what-makes-political-ads-work/

Paid speech vs. unpaid speech.

4. So true

Marketing of America from research and development through advertising. We are the marks of marketing. Most of us don't gronk that. From products to politics we are being influenced to consume what we are TOLD we need, want, desire or expect.
The take away is be aware of the constant pandering to your emotional centers because most of this shit is irrational. |

3. On Real Time w/ Bill Maher Friday - About "moving to the middle"
|
Last edited Sun Apr 29, 2012, 02:09 PM USA/ET - Edit history (3) During a discussion about Austerity in the U.K compared to the U.S. Andrew Ross Sorkin said
Republicans are moving too fast and Democrats are not moving at all. Then Paul Begala said 2 trillion? And Bill Maher pointed to Paul while looking at Sorkin and said “How is -Democrats cutting- 2 trillion not “at all”? Then Sorkin said I’m not going to dismiss that but when thinking about the larger issue they ultimately need to get to the middle. I was kind of mortified by that bit of banter because A) Sorkin did dismiss the 2 trillion in his original argument…. outright (which is part of the problem with getting the information right anymore) and........ B) “they” need to get to the middle (I thought…. the middle is now very far right so NO, it’s not about getting to the middle anymore and that bit of nonsense needs to stop being addressed in that way. The right must move to the left going forward because that is closer to the true middle). It is time to stop saying “the middle” as though it is a fair compromise. It is not. |

this is very true. Not so much for the people though. It's just that what the people want doesn't matter any more TO the political class.

In less than a generation. We will need a French Revolution just to undo the Patriot Act. Bush fucked us three ways to Sunday.
