Please don't tell me that dumbass Romney told kids to borrow money from their parents?

Does he realize we're not all trust fund babies. Most of us have parents that struggle too.

Mitt Romney Tells Otterbein University Students To Borrow Money From Their Parents

Speaking during a campaign stop Friday, Mitt Romney encouraged students at Otterbein University in Ohio, to show enterprise by going into business -- with a little help from their parents, if necessary.

Romney cited the example of Jimmy John's owner Jimmy John Liautaud, who borrowed money from his father to start his successful sandwich franchise.

"We've always encouraged young people: Take a shot, go for it, take a risk, get the education, borrow money if you have to from your parents, start a business," Romney said.

I mean geez most of these parents are losing their life savings thanks to the Bush Regime.

I mean, I know a lot of people who could count on their parents to help them in the first years out of college, but I wasn't one of them. My dad worked every overtime hour he could get to put me and my brother through school while also paying private school tuition for my younger sister b/c the public schools had already gone to shit at that point. There was nothing left when I graduated from college and I had to figure things out on my own.

what a fucking idiot. Not only are there a lot of parents out there right now who don't have money to lend their kids, there are a lot of parents out there who do have the means that WON'T lend to their kids. When I was in university, I had my first year paid for by scholarships. By my second year, my parents said they would pay then changed their mind. I wanted to apply for student loans but I needed to know how much my parents made (because I was still living with them, and the government expected them to contribute a percentage depending on how much they were making) but they wouldn't tell me or let me put their tax return on my loan papers. I ended up not getting a loan and dropping out. My parents could afford it, they just didn't 'believe' in helping out kids for post secondary. At the time we were in a recession and I was making minimum wage at a p/t job - which wasn't enough money to afford my car (which i needed because we didn't live in the city where school or work was) let alone tuition.

Anytime after that I went to my parents for financial help (and they make 6 figures, have no mortgage on both of their properties - home and cottage - vacation in the tropics once or twice a year, buy everything they want etc) I was told no. My parents refuse to let me know how much they make. They refuse to help me with tuition now that I'm a single mom. My ex helps me out more than my parents and he definitely doesn't make as much money as they do. So, Rmoney, not ALL parents WILL help out their kids, EVEN IF they have the means.

And if you haven't guessed it, my parents are conservatives. Shocker, I'm sure.

you are basically an orphan. Your parents aren't even really conservative they are just plain selfish and mean. That is seriously f'd up. I know conservatives are for the most part pretty awful people, but even among them most will look out for the best interest of their children. I know a lot of liberals in college that have conservative parents and they aren't wealthy by any stretch, but they are helping them with tuition, it's a community college, but that is what they can afford. I just have a hard time believing this is the norm among conservatives. Heck even Rmoney's day helped him out with some chump change so he wouldn't have to take out loans.

Money doesn't save people from the problems of old age. I guess they can set up their own nursing home arrangements and sit there with no one who gives a damn.

and while I was away at school, listed me as an employee at the company where he was a district manager, forged my signature onto a 1099 form, and kept the income.

A couple years later, I was greeted with a letter from the IRS demanding payment for back taxes, including interest and penalties. Now. Or go to jail.

Do you *really* think I'd ever get into any kind of business deal with him on purpose?!?! GAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

I would not hesitate to do it if it was my family member. A simiiar thing happened to my cousin, and he let it go. While I loved my uncle, answering for his crime would have been a good opportunity to grow up.

talking about this is a great country and many kids are getting jobs. He was talking like it was in the 70s when everything was just mashingly successful. But telling kids to borrow money from their parents when parents are having a hard time putting food on the table for the family was just showing how out of touch he really is with working families. I'm sure the wealthy and the upper middle class can do that for their kids. The rest of us only wish we could do it for our kids.
