HARRISBURG, Penn. Organizers with Keystone Progress invited Hillary Clinton, Martin OMalley, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders to speak at the annual conference here this weekend. Sanders showed up.
The Independent senator from Vermont is actively considering a presidential run in 2016, and hopes to tap into progressive grassroots networks like this one for a potential underdog challenge to all-but-declared Democratic frontrunner Clinton.
The desire for an alternative to Clinton was clear among the 800 rank-and-file activists, labor organizers, and local elected officials here. But hes stuck between Clinton on one hand and Warren on the other, who so far tops many progressives fantasy draft presidential ticket.
Hillary Clinton doesnt come up in our conversations as being a progressive, said Franklin Country Democratic Party Chair Sheri Morgan, who was manning the Progressive Democrats of America booth offering Run, Bernie, Run swag.

(3,544 posts)Ross Perot to win. I fully support everything this guy stands for. But for him to win, he would have to have some major air time, to get his word out the the public. That would take a sh*t pot of money. Personally he'd get my vote over Hilliary.

(6,994 posts)there will be (numbers of Democrats?) that will not because she is too much like a Republican. A Republican lite.
If Hillary wins the nomination we will be disadvantaged because a Republican will win the White House. But wait there are many other
qualified Democrats that could attract the liberal voters and defeat Hillary for the nomination.
Bernie would have my support but it would take deep pockets from the middle class Democrats. Hillary will have a big advantage over all Democrat challengers though because she will have Wall St funding

(3,544 posts)Hilliary not to run. I personally wish she would not run. I think we've had enough of the Clintons and Bush's. As for the GOP, there is NO ONE on the clown bus that could compete against either one.

(10,893 posts)the ignorance and the apathy of the American voter. As we know all too well, this country is filled with people who not only don't know the meaning of the word "socialist", but they also don't know how government works and they take voting for granted.

(62,325 posts)actually want something. Right now, I see little enthusiasm for the 2016 WH race. But if Bernie were on the ticket, I am certain it would motivate people as Obama did, also not well known nationally, in 2008.

Hillary will continue the rightward move and the Dem Party leadership will simply be right instead of center-right as they are now.

(721 posts)I know Republicans who would vote for Bernie, because he stands up with conviction on the side of the American people. We need REAL Democrats to primary HRC. Bernie may call himself and Independent, but we all know he's way far more of a Democrat than HRC. The Democratic Party MUST be wrested out of the hands of the Corporatists, once and for all.
Go Bernie!

(3,544 posts)I'd really like to see Warren team up with him. That would be an unbeatable combo.

(6,568 posts)What's your point? Trying to smear Hillary for being a "Goldwater Girl" before she was able to vote while giving others a pass is dishonest.
I should note that I like Liz Warren, and she has more than made up for her past.

(62,325 posts)What matters is how the light changes their views on some pretty important issues.
Warren represents the people on major issues, such as the corruption on Wall St, the unprecedented power they have over this country's government and is not shy about speaking her mind AND doing something about it. Same thing on other major issues, such as the attacks on SS eg.
Hillary otoh, still supports Corporate America, is supported BY them, and doesn't appear to see how much damage they have done to this country.
So a better way to criticize those who once were Republicans, is not to determine WHEN they changed parties, but WHY and how their views reflect that change today.
Until this country fixes the problem of corruption on Wall St, nothing else can be accomplished. The power they have, over Congress, the WH, the Media, our electoral system, the SC, makes it nearly impossible to get any representation for the people.
Warren passes that test. Hillary not so much.
Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)So by your logic, Warren supports Corporate America.
On the issues, Hillary has always been a liberal Democrat. Her voting record proves it. Warren is to the left of her on some issues, and others not so much. Regardless, they're both FANTASTIC politicians, and whomever wins the Dem primary will have my support. As for who I'm going to support in the Dem primary? No one is officially running at this point, so I don't have any reason to smear potential Democratic candidates. I didn't support Hillary in '08, I was behind Kucinich. Of course, I'm in FL so my primary vote didn't even count in the end.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)she supports her on some of the most important issues facing the country today. But she has made references to those differences in subtle ways.
Hillary is liberal on the same three issues that are a requirement in order to be a Democrat. However, anyone who supports Wall St and War, does not really support women and minorities. It simply means they don't understand how those issues directly affect the people who will be required to make the actual sacrifices for generations to come.
I supported Kucinich also. He is way too far ahead of his time for this country at this point. We are in a very regressive phase of our history. He has vision, those in power are not interested in a better America, just what it can do for them.

(1,668 posts)Even if Warren decides to run later, and Sanders doesn't want to compete with her, he can withdraw before the primaries and swing all his support to her.
But it would be good to start getting the progressive opposition to the DLC moving now in my opinion.
