That's what I thought about the rest of them.
No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.
I know it's a stretch...
but the Foreclosure SNAFU seems to argue differently.
The foreclosure troops are not soldiers, but the enforcement comes from those militarily trained...

(431 posts)Except that there are no soldiers involved at all. And no one is being quartered in any house. And the banks hold deeds to the houses they foreclose on, so technically they are the owners. But you have a point in that both your post and the 3rd Amendment to the Constitution are both written in English....
Like I said. Uncanny.

All the while enforced and encouraged by both the Federal and Local Governments...
With federally militarized police standing by to ensure that the those at the top make sure the rest of us understand "Moral Hazard"...

(431 posts)The 3rd Amendment probably had nothing to do with the historic practice of a colonial power to take over private property for the use of its military. It probably has something to do with an interest in the government, through the courts, to enforce contracts.
Yeah. You are right on.

(7,776 posts)I believe it's the only amendment to the BOR that has never been brought before the SCOTUS.
I've always thought of it as the cornerstone to the rest of the US Constitution and BOR, because when you think about it... if it ever comes down to a time when soldiers are quartered in any house without the consent of the owner... it's a sure sign that the whole of our Constitution, rights and government has been compromised and has ceased to exist.
And yeah... your analogy is a "stretch".

(22,541 posts)And do those "militarily trained" local cops move in with the families and force those families to feed them and their, um, horses?

(6,785 posts)If you're forcing private citizens to quarter troops in their homes, you can't funnel a shitload of money to your buddies in companies like KBR for building shoddy barracks with untrained labor.
If it were possible for them to get kickbacks from forcing you to quarter troops, they'd already be doing it.
ETA: More than doubt. I'm reasonably certain the third will never be violated. There's no profit in it.
