More Americans Believe in Witchcraft Than Agree With Citizens United

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/04/24/470450/more-americans-believe-in-witchcraft-than-agree-with-citizens-united/

"In Citizens United v. FEC, the Supreme Court justified its conclusion that corporations and wealthy individuals can spend unlimited money to influence elections because it believed that “independent expenditures, including those made by corporations, do not give rise to corruption or the appearance of corruption.” According to a recent survey conducted for the Brennan Center for Justice, however, this places the five conservatives who joined this opinion in very lonely company. According to the poll, “69% of respondents agreed that ‘new rules that let corporations, unions and people give unlimited money to Super PACs will lead to corruption.’ Only 15% disagreed.”
To put this in perspective, a 2007 poll found that 19 percent of Americans believe in “spells or witchcraft,” and that’s just one of the supernatural beliefs that are more common than agreement with the conservative justices’ bizarre reasoning in Citizens United"

If this doesn't put how ridiculous Citizen United v. FEC into perspective than I don't think anything will.

eh?

More Americans believe that Citizen's United is Completely unrelated to Witchcraft, just not make it for a headline based on a pretty dang thin premise in the first place?

I will go with the obvious that you are ignorant of the facts of Citizens United case, or just hate Wiccans...either way, linking such blather not going to end well.

There are cognitive reasons to oppose that decision and equal ones to support it, none of which involves "witchcraft".

The OP writer is not editorializing against Wiccans, since he didn't mention them. I've only heard the term witchcraft and Wiccans mixed by Fundies, who I don't consider to be experts on anything. And that's definitely not the reputation of Think Progress.

How is it that you are seeing them to be the same?

I also know a number of people who do believe in spirits who are not Wiccans or Christians. A lot of people on different spiritual paths, even some agnostics and atheists believe there are different dimensions in which forces exist and interact with us. Woowoo abounds.

You can alert the thread as religious bigotry if you believe that's what Think Progress is doing with the headline. But it seems to me that the OP writer is being more supportive of the efforts against than Citizens United than against Wiccans. IMHO.

I think the thread is more about Citizens United and the fact that the system SCOTUS is allowed is going to have to change, just like everything else.

the bill myself, I probably would be as puffed up with indignation myself with indignation over the bill.

However, since point has diverged, not all Wiccans are fun people, just so far the ones i have found

I have actually read the point, and it really is not all the hard, so the silly things people make it out...just make me wonder why people are lazy.

If anyone was to put it into honest words.....what, 0.001% of people losing a laugh over jon stewart *who i adore!"

Lack of facts and hyper emotionalism on the subject truly cripples their crediblity. When lead like a moronic child through the case, even the most vigorous will blush, and admit, they have no clue what the decision was about.

The Supremes who unleashed Citizens United, on the other hand, are batshit crazy sociopaths.
Just my two cents.

Then somebody from BP should be going to jail for what happened in the Gulf. You've done a damn fine job of distorting the intentions of this thread and maybe you should think a little harder about it. Firstly, I don't know if you actually read the link I posted but witchcraft is not the only thing it discusses, so you might as well back off that point. Secondly, as soon as you give people and corporations with a massive amount of money the advantage of throwing money into a campaign you swing the favor heavily in the side they support. In which case the expression becomes not that of the PEOPLE, but that of the rich corporations and individual who are the minority of the population. So it becomes that our government is not of the PEOPLE, but of the rich. That's called a plutocracy, not a democracy. So before you go harassing everyone else on this thread you might as well read this and maybe stop to think about the other side since you've made it fairly clear that you support the ruling made by the corporation funded SCOTUS.

Except you didn't respond to anything. I'm interested in hearing your justification but all I've seen is a post to a link which you claim to have read all 183 pages of. And if your referring to me as a 5th grade writer you may want to re-read your last post for grammar misuse and lack of capitalization.

Oh, and by the way, the liberty you are guaranteed by the First Amendment is the right of free speech. If you can find me a line from the Constitution that defines corporate expenditure as free speech I will happily back down on the issue.

ignorant thing that is just silly?

I know and you know you did not bother reading it, is there a point against or for the decision that you want to raise? having followed it, i can argue pretty damned well both sides, and i will even give merits to the side i disagreed with.

But i suspect, i suspect for the bloody obvious you are in the category of people stupid enough to believe what they told...if not have at it!

Exactly what liberty would you like me to give up?

if the *liberty* thing is going past your head, you were not paying attention when the case was heard, like a good prole (I suppose)...

I've only read part and thanks to your post I will happily read the rest. However, I'll restate the question brought up that WAS implied by the ruling: that corporate spending is a form of free speech. Explain.

And as far as I'm concerned we have nothing to discuss about liberty. That shipped sailed with the patriot act and same-sex marriage laws.

Also, I know you have your own opinion and I respect that, but if you read the article the real thing I was trying to get through was that 69% of the American people surveyed think that this ruling leads to corruption. And though they're probably just idiots in your eyes (and don't try to act like you haven't called me stupid at least once), they are the basis of our government and the only reason we can claim to have any goddamn liberty in the first place.
