My cat Lucky.
(The B/W one on the left)
She can hardly walk at all, her back legs limp badly, and she's literally skin and bones.
Tomorrow she takes that final ride to the vet.

(14,733 posts)The pain of parting is the price we all pay for the years of unconditional love and happiness. I'm fighting to put weight back on one of my dogs who has been dropping it far too fast and is getting too thin as well.

(67,104 posts)this with my cat. There was no hope for him, both he and I knew it. It was better.

(135,425 posts)She might like the warmth on her bones.
If you don't have that, she might like to lay under a sixty watt (incandescent) bulb on an old gooseneck lamp.
Both of those helped my old cat in her final days. She would move rarely, but she alternated between the heating pad and the pillow under the lamp. Might as well make her last hours comfortable.
Sorry for your distress.

(36,392 posts)My 14 yo dog saved me the trauma by walking to her favorite spot down by the lake and crossing the rainbow bridge at 11:00 PM the night before she was to be euthanized. We spent her last evening on Earth sitting on the couch. Get a replacement soon - it helps

(6,001 posts)knowing they won't suffer doesn't make it any easier.
I can only say I..and most us us here....know your pain.
It sucks and that doesn't make it easier.
Know you gave a companion many years of love and comfort and if half of us treated each other half as good as Lucky got treated we would as a species be better people.
Hugs to you

(9,298 posts)I'm pretty sure it's made all my pets more relaxed, and must be there until the end to say goodbye.
This is the bargain we always make - our pets don't live nearly long enough, but Lucky is a perfect name for the love she received from you.

(46,318 posts)Lucky has been with me for 15+ years, and I always enjoy having her around, she's so affectionate and loving.
It was 5 years ago I lost my tomcat Erin to kidney failure, and then Charlotte moved in with me.
I think Charlotte knows something is up.
She's being more affectionate than usual.

(5,376 posts)I held her close for as long as I could, I sang to her and I wept. Such a hard, hard thing to do, and I send all my best wishes to you. The love you have given her has been returned, I'm sure. Grieve the loss for as long as you need to. I still think I see Gracie lying in her favorite spot, waiting for her hugs, and the tears return. Lucky's spirit will always be with you.
Blessings and strength.

(80,708 posts)I was with my cat a few years ago, at the end, for the similar trip to the vet. He was old and had developed a mouth cancer which prevented him from being able to eat. So--- he was not a happy camper.
I was with him at the end, and saw how he relaxed and went to sleep. He was grateful, palpably, for the relief, he was loved at the end and cared for, and I knew I had done right by him.
It's hard, though. I am sorry.

(40,416 posts)Rest peacefully, Lucky. And know well, that you are doing the right thing, Archae. I lost my Rosina two winters ago. She was active, but I knew she was not well. One night she walked off and never came back.
My best regards.

(22,666 posts)...is to take on the hurt so they no longer have to. It's the right thing though it's SO hard. She'll go loved and that's the most you can give her. The heating pad sounds like a good idea.

(111,245 posts)I lost my last kitty just before Thanksgiving, a tough little girl who made it to 21, extreme old age for a cat. She did the slow fade but I think cancer is what got her in the end.
This is the first time I've been without a kitty since I left home at 18.

(70,078 posts)so many people dont have the guts.
there is a lady down the street from me who had 5 bichons at one point. they all followed her politely on their walks down the street.
a couple passed at a fairly young age, but she was down to 2 this summer. they were both so infirm that they could barely walk. but she dragged them down the street 3 times a day nonetheless.
one finally passed, but the last one still gets dragged down the street.
if i was just an id, i would slap her.
take some pride that you value her well being above yours.
