Without adequate oversight there's going to be problems.

I'm sure there are decent bankers too, that doesn't mean they shouldn't have to answer to anybody.

Dams have broken and the engineers, contractors and inspectors weren't punished

Granted, it's more commonplace among cops (what with them carrying guns and all) that fatalities occur as a result of their action or inaction, but I'm sure there are examples in other professions where negligence has led to a death and the guilty party was not punished.

Keeping in mind that I'm arguing for MORE oversight on cops because they must be accountable.

They have no problem pointing out "bad" teachers and teacher unions. But they just can't bring themselves to admit that there just might be "bad" cops.

... that when I hear about a teacher getting caught dealing drugs or molesting a student, I don't have a bazillion other teachers derailing with, "Hey! Not all teachers are like that!" or "Let's wait until all the evidence is in!" or telling us how hard a job it is and sometimes you might just molest a student by accident because you're so stressed.

That's how they think.

In total absolutes.

When we said we shouldn't invade Iraq they would spout out like teasing children, "Oh, so you love Saddam? You want to have sex with Saddam?"

People who do that crap shouldn't even be in charge of a car wash.

The people who object do so because they associate the deceased officers with the criminal behavior of their co-workers.
