Omaha officer returns big, furry, slobbery 'boys' to their home

I know Officer Urban from when she used to work the OPD front desk and our shifts crossed.

A tale of beauty and the beasts took place Saturday as Omaha Police Officer Anna Urban returned two large dogs to their home.

Urban spotted a crowd forming around a Great Dane and what appeared to be a Siberian Husky near the southwest precinct at 9864 M St. Being a dog lover, Urban stopped to see if she could help, said Sgt. Amy Oetter of the Omaha Police Officer Association.

The Great Dane, whose name turned out to be Doug, jumped into Urban’s cruiser when she opened the rear door, said Oetter. His buddy, whose name was not reported, accepted a ride in the front passenger seat.

Urban’s drive to track down the dogs’ owner proved interesting, as the pooches inadvertently activated the emergency lights and siren. They also managed to hit the emergency assist button, Oetter said.

I loved that they activated the lights and siren. I guess they wanted to ride home in style.

He did seem to be "in charge" sitting in the driver's seat. Thanks, Brother Buzz. It helps to get away from the bad and sad news.
