CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Heartless Felons gang gave its members orders to kill white police officers to avenge black lives taken by white police officers, including the Nov. 21 Tamir Rice shooting, officials said.

The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office received the tip and deemed it credible enough to reach out to local police departments to make them aware of the threat.
Sheriff's office spokesman John O'Brien would not say where or when they got the tip.
O'Brien said the sheriff's office declined to give specific information about the threat for fear that it would benefit the gang.

Steven Dettelbach, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, denounced the threats from the gang.
Just substitute the word police for gangs, and I am sure we would all agree. I wonder if he knows how ironic/hypocritical his statement is?

Sounds to me like their Intelligence Division is trying to justify their budget.

(2,086 posts)not strategic. That is, they were prompted by reaction to a circumstance, not planned in advance as gang strategy.
I have no doubt that these gangsters are a serious threat, but I disbelieve they're planning to mount reprisals against police personnel.
No profit in that, either in loot nor in any likelihood of intimidating police into ignoring them or failing to engage them.
Gangs are all about gaining strength and profit. This reported reprisal strategy doesn't help either objective and would most likely result in severe crackdowns limiting their opportunities for profit and dissuading recruitment.
It's possible, I suppose. The Panthers were known for their attempts to protect their communities and give support to locals. Most of their criminal activity were conducted with those goals in mind, the police agencies caused the bad press that painted them as primarily career criminals. That said, the era of the Panthers is over and modern gangs are primarily criminals.
This report just doesn't play and I'm personally convinced that it's been invented by the PD with the aim of gaining them public support to counter public disgust with police racism and murder.
I'm interested in how this plays out in the long run. I think we'll see some raids by police claiming inflated captures of weapons, but won't see a single assassination or raid by gang members on a police unit.

(3,891 posts)I'm sure that they will by the way. I'll even bet that they conduct a variation of the Grand Jury process where they ask independant people who have no affiliation with their gang to admit it sounded justified given the circumstances.
Yes, I'm sure that these killings will receive the highest possible priority in being investigated by the aforementioned gang. I'll even bet the Gang Member in question is put on a sort of paid leave while the Gang investigates to make sure that everything is hunky dory legally speaking.

(2,273 posts)All with supposed links to the Heartless Felons gang. In fact I am willing to bet they will be shortly showing a connection between Tamir Rice and the felons to justify his murder.

As recently as five years ago, I would have believed the statement from the PD. Today... not so much.
