KO owns Noonan on ABC This Week
with George Snuffyupagus.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/22/keith-olbermann-this-week-roundtable_n_1443731.html (snip) Olbermann mostly spoke only when asked a question by host George Stephanopoulos. The only exception was his objection to Peggy Noonan's suggestion that Mitch Daniels and Rob Portman, who both have business backgrounds, would be good vice-presidential picks. "Do -- do you really want a second businessman on that ticket, though, in light of the -- if it's not a majority view, it's a very large view right now that business has never been viewed less favorably in this country since they ran Jay Gould out of town," Olbermann said. Noonan answered that a lot of voters associate business people with job creation. "What about running a government?" Olbermann asked. (snip) KO had a facial expression while Noonan was talking that was priceless. It was a thing of beauty. IMHO.

|
Noonan, the Reagan swooner, was her usual didactic self--she sounded like a kindergarten teacher trying to give bossy orders to adults in her "little kid" voice. A very irritating and not-very-bright person. Her analytical skills are very "last century" too. I'm no spring chicken, but I don't think she has a full appreciation of the capabilities of modern communications. I really don't think she fully "gets" social networking.
I think he is trying out for a seat in the rotation. I'm guessing they probably want a little more fire (but not TOO much). We'll see if he's invited back. |

I think she is just given a list of talking points and told to work them in no matter what everyone else is talking about. Not someone who thinks on the fly. KO owned her without much effort. Still, it was good to see on network teevee.

As for KO, I think he purposely held back, in part because he tends to do that when he's not on his own show. Even when he's on Bill Maher's show. But, the network shows tend to be more milquetoast compared to the cable shows of that genre, so taking that into consideration, I think he didn't want to cause any controversy. I hope he shows up on this program on a more regular basis. |

That programme is way too much 'herself' and George "I didn't steal the briefing book, I just knowingly used it to prepare Ronnie for a debate against Carter" Will--another asshole who has stayed too long at the fair.
Noonan isn't very good, in fact, she's irritating, so it's a mystery why they keep her on. I'd wager she's got the lowest Q Scores of anyone on that panel. |
For those who are wondering:
In sharp contrast, 20 years earlier, top operatives in Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign pored through Jimmy Carter's lengthy briefing book swiped from the White House. Back then, behind the scenes, Will was part of the effort to make the most of the illegally obtained papers.
Will looked at the Carter briefing materials and then helped coach Reagan for a crucial debate with Carter. Promptly after the debate, Will went on "Nightline" to praise Reagan for a "thoroughbred performance." Viewers had no way to know of Will's involvement in prepping Reagan for the debate. http://www.fair.org/media-beat/010308.html |

She reminds of the teacher(s) we've all had that speak so slowly and precisely that you just want to reach in their mouths and yank the words out. As soon she starts talking, I feel the urge to fall asleep. I can't imagine why anyone would put her on a television program unless they want their audience to switch channels or doze off.

I am not a person with violent tendencies, but I really do wish someone would verbally take her to the woodshed and do it decisively. I realize Olbermann had to demonstrate an ability to work and play well with others in his maiden voyage at that table, given his recent split with CURRENT, but I was kind of hoping he'd go off on her ass. Her arguments are not that good, in fact, a lot of them are lousy, lame and hackneyed--she delights in old paradigms that hark back to the time of her true love, Saint Ronnie--but people who I KNOW know better don't call her on a lot of her horseshit. That's why I think she's got a lot of dirt on people, and they let her get away with lazy and lousy talking points. |

The pronounced pauses between her words with nothing of substance coming out were difficult to sit through. Actually, I felt the same about George Will. Boring, so yesterday, & out of his element.
Considering she doesn't have any fresh ideas or thoughts, why is she considered relevant to be sitting in that chair on a weekly basis? My goodness, she was a speechwriter for a president who could never be nominated in today's tea party-hijacked Republican party & who has been dead for over a decade. |

At the age of 34 he started working for Bush the Elder and since then has worked outside of government for a total of two years.
The only "business" experience I can find for him is that he worked for a short while in his father's forklift dealership. Adding that the only "business" experience I can find concerning Daniels is 10+ years at Eli Lilly, I'm wondering where this argument comes from. and I found it quite out of character but rather amusing. And did you notice his perfect attire? He did have that one pithy response to Noonan about two businessmen being on the ticket, and the pretty neat sports prediction, but overall, he was the epitome of good behavior. He presented a deportment so contrary to the verbal attacks he has recently endured, I could not help but hope some of his detractors caught the show and the thought occurred to them probably for the first time he was now their competition.... I was so happy to see him back doing what he does so extremely well, I caught the rerun later this evening and listened again. He's back and that is all that matters. I feel confident we will see more of him and in different places until he lands another spot of his choosing.

in years. I only watched because of Keith and may watch it again if he is on. Actually I gave up on most of the Sunday shows a long time ago. I am enjoying Chris Hayes show weekend mornings though. Its intelligent and informative.

19. Ug. That was 23 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
|
KO was very restrained. He let outragious things go unchallenged, especially the crazy anti-Obama lies George Will spewed ("Obama said he could stop the seas from rising." "Obama says ATMs cause gas price increases.") I am so sick of rightwingers saying lies and not being challenged.
KO, I hope you were holding your punches so you would be invited back. If not, I don't care if you get invited back. |

21. That's how those "roundtables" work
|
It is not Crossfire. George Will, Peggy Noonan, et al can say whatever they want and it just goes out there, usually without a challenge. I think the main point of them is simply to fill a half hour of TV time... There's never any insight gained from listening to these people parrot their predicable points of view. Given the format I thought Olbermann did OK.

or was she especially sing-songy today? I know, it's like saying that a micrometer is bigger than a nanometer, you really need a finely tuned instrument to observe that directly.

24. This might be a better format for Olberman for awhile
|
After his long stint of over ten years at MSNBC he probably needs a position involving less responsibility and stress. It's especially true for Olbermann who takes politics to heart the way he does.

42. Agreed. He is a little too prickly to have a daily show.
|
Although I miss him like I don't know what. I've finally figured out that he's got 'issues' that sure can mess up a good thing, like his Current gig. I sure hope he lands a home somewhere soon. We need his voice and his special comments!
I didn't know he was on this show today. Sorry I missed it. |

28. Rmoney is going to have a VP problem no matter what.
|
If they pick someone with business experience then it will just be a Rmoney light who adds nothing to the ticket.
If they pick someone with strong credentials outside of business then it makes Rmoney look inexperienced. If they pick a strong Conservative it makes it harder for him to run to the middle. (If they pick a strong Christian Conservative it brings religion into the debate and he doesn't want that at all.) If they pick a Moderate he alienates a portion of his base. No matter who they pick he/she will need to debate VP Biden and there is a pretty good chance Joe will win that one (again). There is no good choice for Rmoney's VP. I guess this is just what happens when your candidate sucks. |

or outshine that creepy Skeletor looking jerk in a too-expensive suit. Of course, anyone with half a personality will outshine him in the "likability" department!
You've summed up his difficulties very nicely! |

31. I have never had any respect for Noonan,
|
and this happens to be the first time I've ever seen and heard her. What a bizarre and irritating voice and delivery. She does come across as not really very bright.
I used to work at National Airport in Washington DC, and every so often had the dubious pleasure of dealing with George Will. His mother lived in a city on our route system. He was simply the crabbiest person I've ever met. |

35. My overall impression of the program was that Keith's presence highlighted
|
Last edited Mon Apr 23, 2012, 12:26 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1) that this stodgy, stale group isn't worth listening to!!! My goodness, I thought, there's no purpose to this program at all other than rehashing old ideas. Every panelist, with the exception of Keith, seemed to be sleepwalking their way through the discussion like robots. And that's why Keith's objection to Noonan was so satisfying. I'm glad he didn't let that comment go by. Clearly, no one else on that stodgy panel would have even thought of how outdated her remark was -- they seem to be running on automatic without thinking.
Only Keith was a breath of fresh air -- the few times he was given a chance to speak. And speaking of his minimal participation, I noticed every camera shot of the entire panel was done in a way that Keith was hidden. But I'm glad that he was given the opportunity. I couldn't help thinking how ironic it was that Stephanopoulus, an ex-member of Clinton's presidency, was the first to give Keith some airtime on a political discussion, considering the fallout between Keith & Al Gore. |

36. Truth be told
|
Georgie Boy is way high on the OBNOXIOUS scale along with Peggy. He just had to slide in the trial coming up for John Edwards, right? Very disingenuous human being - he's fallen far and long since his heyday Clinton days. Now he's not a boy genius, just a middle aged snot with a show.
Whew, I feel much better. |
