Republicans support "pink slime" because liberals are against it...

Bill Maher discussed it on his show last night. They even went to a factory to give it a taste test to show that it was good stuff. Maher said they were at war "with common sense."

I suppose if the Democrats were to tell the people not to eat shit sandwiches, the Repubs would do their best to convince us of the nutritional value...?

If a Democrat says something sensible, they will claim the opposite. They're even opposing their own policies if a Democrat says he supports them.

They're pushing themselves deeper and deeper into a ditch that I sincerely doubt they will ever be able to exit. We're witnessing the self destruction of a Hamiltonian political party for the third time, I think, because they're going exactly the way of the Federalists and Whigs.

Once you are unable to look at a situation and say whether or not something worked and admit it if it didn't and then change policy accordingly, you are finished. All that's left is a donnybrook of a political convention, probably in 2016, and then a prolonged burial as the party sputters along for a decade or two as a regional party.

I was under the impression it was a necessary evil unless we go grain fed.

When the carcasses are hanging up, a spray down with a weak bleach solution will kill any surface E. coli. As I recall reading somewhere, the management at slaughter houses didn't want to go through this extra step, because it would slow things down. So they settle for a low level of E. Coli making it through the process and into the hamburger.

Here from Wikipedia:

A study by Cornell University[24] has determined that grass-fed animals have as much as 80% less of this strain of E. coli in their guts than their grain-fed counterparts, though this reduction can be achieved by switching an animal to grass only a few days prior to slaughter. Also, the amount of E. coli they do have is much less likely to survive our first-line defense against infection: stomach acid.

But they take them directly from the feedlot to the slaughterhouse, which is why the E. coli problem. A few days on grass would cost even more than a 15 minute bleach spray. Just remember, in the quest for a more profitable operation, public health and safety are the last thing they think about.

5. Pink Slime
Sat Apr 21, 2012, 03:50 PM

People want leaner ground beef now so processing plants take the fatty portions and heat them just enough to melt the fat off. This low temperature is perfect for bacterial growth so the meat slurry is treated with ammonia to inhibit bacterial growth. This resulting concoction is "pink slime" that they want to pass of as "finely textured beef trimmings".

and labels should have the finely textured beef listed but I don't trust ALEC or some other POS group pushing legislation to allow them to sneak it back into out food supply.

By the looks on their faces, they were disgusted to eat that stuff. They were just putting on a show for us "peons" and mostly their donors and after they show is over they will go the fancy french restaurant and order the porter house grass feed beef. So in another words only we are stupid enough to eat that shit....

You can get them to do anything you want as long as you convince them that their position will be opposite that of liberals.
