I'm curious to hear what their take was on this Grand Jury decision and what went on in Ferguson last night.

(26,060 posts)and was surprised at how angry Joe was at the behavior of the DA's office - from start to finish he called it a (whatever is a family friendly word for) fuckup. Said there should have been an indictment - this should have gone to trial. My mouth was on the floor. Of course, when I left for the train he could have gone back to his right wing self and focused on the rioting but that's not what I saw at first.

(45,251 posts)Mika had to keep interjecting because good ole Joe was blaming the cops before all the facts were in, or some such.
Either this actually is Joe's decent spot, or he wants to be sure that he gives no one reason to accuse that Republican of being racist. Take your pick.
Still, it's good for the right to hear it from one of their own.

(26,060 posts)Both my sister and her husband are lawyers and are both horrified and stunned that he was not indicted on at least involuntary manslaughter. I bet sis there would be no indictment 2 months ago. This case belongs in front of a jury and I hope the feds agree.

Actually, he did not harp on the lack of an indictment, which would have been a challenge to the jurors and the "rule of law." Rather Joe harped on process--and rightly so, IMO. It was the way the prosecutor handled this that was so horrific. But, as I said, he did not go only against the grand jury, but about the whole day yesterday.
I can't say I disagree with that or with his critique of how the officials handled things yesterday. What I can say is that Joe is one of the most sly, disingenuous characters I've encountered. So, I wouldn't put it past him to be very calculated in coming across this reasonable on race issues, no matter how he really feels. (He also soft pedals what he claims are his deep religious views.)
However, do I necessarily take it at face value? No. However, I am willing to leave open the possibility that he has one decent spot.

(26,060 posts)for the last several years - but only the first 15-20 minutes because my train is soon after - so that's all I have to go by. He doesn't strike me as an out and out bigot (the way Guiliani is and made plain this past weekend). He's a right winger for sure but I just don't see him as a bigot. He also may be staking out his turf - some say (I can't believe I just used those words) he's thinking of running for President - this attitude would certainly set him apart from the rest of the sewer dwellers on the right.

(45,251 posts)for you not to see him that way. Or he may be sincere.
If I had to put down a bet, I'd go for option number one because he is a calculated, deceptive so and so, IMO. Also, because his reaction to the Prof. Gates story was so loud and over the top that the supposedly reasonable Mika had to step in and rein him in.
But, obviously, I can't know for certain and don't pretend to.
All I'm saying is, leave both possibilities open in your mind and you can't go wrong.
I should always try and see both sides of that.
