REO Speedwagon and STYX - It is time to dump American Embarrassment Ted Nugent from the Tour!
Why This Is Important
I'm a proven patriot that was hunting down Communists when I was 18 and 19 - when Nugent was starting his career as a Chicken-Hawk Draft Dodger! While Nugent was practicing killing bunny rabbits and varmits - I was teaching the South Vietnamese how to kill enemy Communist T-54 Tanks! While Nugent was peeing his pants - I was protecting the people and the peace, at great risk to my life with REAL AMERICAN MEN! While Nugent was playing with ponies - I was in the U. S. Cavalry riding out of the sky into a destiny with death! I fought for the honor of my country and regardless of who sits in the oval office respect for that office. The President of the United States of America deserves respect regardless of your political affiliation. I am asking the true patriots in our country to stand with me and demand that REO Speedwagon and Styx drop Ted Nugent from their concert series. Ted has gone nuts and needs to come in off the road to get in touch with what really matters. Threatening our President has gone too far! http://www.change.org/petitions/reo-speedwagon-and-styx-it-is-time-to-dump-american-embarrassment-ted-nugent-from-the-tour

Last edited Thu Apr 19, 2012, 03:04 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) What really happened to Ted Nugent is that he got tarred and feathered. First off, he exercised EXTREME-ly bad judgment by belly flopping into the vat of tar. Once he crawled out, he apparently got a bit hungry for his daily ration of raw flesh and proceeded to run amuck through the chicken coup. And he came out looking kinda bad for his self-directed efforts. Of course, the only way for Ted to "save face" was to turn the tables and blame others for his own reprehensible actions.

Although the OP is a bit heavy on the imperial stuff, I think it's worded to point out the hypocrisy to those who think that Nugent is some kind of an " American warrior patriot", when just the opposite is true.

I fully support seeing chicken hawks get called out on their bluster and swagger by people who actually have something to back it up.
It's kind of like that "Beyond Scared Straight" show where the punk faux-tough-guy teenagers come face-to-face with actual, hardened criminals and gangs, and piss their pants. |

Having spent a year in rice paddies and rubber plantations creating havoc and mayhem for people who neither threatened nor harmed us, I can categorically say Nugent would have experienced a serious "accident" after a few days in Vietnam.
Although I disagreed with the war, I served as the alternative was prison. Luck played a major role in my survival. Next week will mark the 44th year of my return from the sunny shores of Vietnam. Hell, Nugent shit his pants because he was worried about being drafted. Everything changes once the shooting starts. |

|
http://www.tednugent.com/events/
He's actually doing a simultaneous solo tour- The humor here is when you look at the disparity between the venues he's playing with REO Speedwagon & Styx vs his solo gigs... The Midwest Rock 'n Roll Express Tour is playing prestigious places like Red Rocks Ampetheatre and other big pavilions. His solo tour is playing county fairs and biker rallies. |

42. In my Vietnam vets' group, years ago...
|
...some of us were invited every year to speak about the war to a high school class on 'Major Events of the 20th Century.'
On my first visit, I noticed 'VIETNAM' spelled out across the back wall of the classroom in letters 2-3 feet high. Then I learned that the letters were made of 58,000 straightpins the students had spent 5 minutes each day putting in. The next year, the back wall was covered with a collage of 58,000 faces the students had cut from magazine photos. The teacher, it turned out, had been a VN War protester and draft dodger. For refusing to report when drafted, he was sentenced to 2 years in prison. I can't remember now whether he served the full term or just 18 months, but he did time in prison. Our group of VN combat vets had enormous respect for that teacher. He accepted the consequences, and sacrificed, to honor his principles. To use a Vietnamese expression, Nugent isn't worth that teacher's little fingernail. |

I didn't know if I'd be willing to go to jail. I wasn't going to Vietnam though. Before I got drafted, the war ended. But it was frightening. Now that I ready what you had to say, I can see how 2 years in jail would actually be liberating. I would pay that price now, if I had to.
I also admire your willingness to see beyond your own ego and experience. |
