Tad Devine signs on to work with Bernie Sanders on potential 2016 run

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has spent months fishing for a strategist to guide his potential 2016 presidential campaign. On Monday, he hooked a big one: Tad Devine, one of the Democratic Party’s leading consultants and a former high-level campaign aide to Al Gore, John Kerry, and Michael Dukakis.

“If he runs, I’m going to help him,” Devine said in an interview. “He is not only a longtime client but a friend. I believe he could deliver an enormously powerful message that the country is waiting to hear right now and do it in a way that succeeds.”

Devine and Sanders, who first worked together on Sanders's campaigns in the 1990s, have been huddling in recent weeks, mapping out how the brusque progressive senator could navigate a primary and present a formidable challenge to Hillary Rodham Clinton, the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Devine previously served as a senior adviser to the Kerry-Edwards campaign in 2004 and the Gore-Lieberman campaign in 2000. In 1992, he was campaign manager for then-Nebraska senator Bob Kerrey’s presidential bid.

Quite a record of success there

1. We can only learn for Sanders that Tad Devine has learned his lesson since 2004.

I have terrible memories of Ed Gillepsie wiping the floor with him.

Too bad. I really like Sanders and wished I could believe him to be a viable candidate.

4. Bernie should run as a Dem and primaries. This would force the low information potential voters out

there to here why the GOP is screwing them in the collective butts as well as force Dem candidates to a stand either as a Dem or a DINO. The exposure of the debates would be great for the Dems.

I wonder what Begala and Carville are doing these days. Carville always knew how to move a Populist/Progressive message...despite his character flaws and marriage choice and whether he was or is a Progressive, or not. "It's the Economy, Stupid" was a bold tactic and it helped Clinton get elected. Their "War Room" kept the Repubs scrambling when they attacked.

Last I heard they were managing some elections in South America...but, that's awhile back.

BTW: I hope he runs and can get in the debates....even though I have a Warren Sig...I want both of them in the debates...for their message. The chances of either winning are slim..but the people need to hear their voices.
