WASHINGTON -- Awwww. It's been an adorable three years since Bo Obama, the First Family's pet Portuguese water dog, first took up residence in the White House.
Bo Obama first arrived at the White House on April 14, 2009. The six-month old had been returned to his breeder by a previous owner; he was then given to the Obama family as a gift by late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.).
The first three years have been so good that the handsome black and white dog is stumping for four more, doing his part to help the president's reelection campaign by appearing in a campaign ad.
As you can see in the slideshow below, Bo is not just a political friend -- he is an overall loyal companion, accompanying the Obama family on vacation and to White House events like the annual Easter Egg Roll. And sometimes he's found doing normal dog things, like playing fetch, riding Air Force One and hanging around the Oval Office.

p.s. It sure doesn't seem like it's been three years already!
p.s.s. Photo #13 is my favorite, I've never seen that one before.

(31,997 posts)and a great dog. Very obvious the puppy is happy and healthy and loves his people.
Unlike the pictures of the drunkard's Barney where he was being abused and looked like he wanted to bolt every time

(82,383 posts)President Obama and Bo, the Obama family dog, ride in the presidential motorcade en route to PetSmart in Alexandria, Va. The president bought Bo some Christmas gifts at the pet store then walked nearby to Best Buy to purchase gifts for his daughters.
Not on the roof!

Or sorta zombie-ish.
Edited to add:
The photo was taken at the White House Easter Egg Roll event, while President was reading 'Where The Wild Things Are' to the children.

I love the way President Obama is giving nutty rightwingers all the rope they need to hang themselves with their silliness.

(37,648 posts)I can tell that Obama and Bo have a bonding. They're buds. Is Bo the son that Obama never had? (lol)
Seriously, Bo waits for Obama, jogs with Obama, Obama pets on Bo. But if you'll notice, there's not one pic with the girls or Michelle even touching Bo.
Pretty dog, well behaved, sweet natured looks like. I love dogs, but Bo doesn't seem to have a lot of personality. Maybe it's because I can't see his eyes very well?

Nationally recognized contemporary painter Jerry Clovis is the artist behind "Forward with Bo, the first dog".
This is a very cute image of Bo and the clever composition plays off of the Romney dog "crate on the roof" story a few years ago.
