What's a Dad to Do When His Daughter Wants to Dress Up as Han Solo for Halloween?

... put on a Princess Leia costume, of course.

I'll admit -- my take on Princess Leia Organa isn't 100 percent flattering to Carrie Fisher, but, you know, I made do with what I had. I found an incredibly cool Princess Leia hoodie at HerUniverse.com that came with the trademark Leia hair buns on the hood, which made it hard to resist. The skirt is a Red Cross nurse's skirt from a local uniform store. And the thermal underwear and crappy sneakers? Well, it's Michigan and it was cold and we were going to an event at the local zoo, so, yeah, I dropped the ball on that one. I need to find some better Leia boots for actual Halloween.

That's a pretty cool dad - with a sense of humor! Lucky little girl! I guarantee - THAT particular trick-or-treating couple will be the talk of the neighborhood, especially him! They're gonna give everybody a giggle this Halloween.

Heck, every Halloween, there are moms and dads who accompany their kids while dressed up, themselves, for Halloween. So many adults turn back into kids on Halloween, which I think is so cool! There was one year when I felt like getting into the act, too. I had to take my kids and several other neighbor kids around to do trick-or-treating, and I wanted to dress up, but I didn't have too much to work with. So I put on all my sparring gear from karate class and went out that way. Everybody who saw us thought it was hilarious and enjoyed it. That was a FUN Halloween!

She kicked butt. Assertive when both Solo and Skywalker were tentative. I liked in the books how she thought it was B.S. that Anakin/Darth Vader's spirit was penitent and wanted a relationship with her. Some things you never come back from (like destroying your adoptive home world and family).

She was and is still one of the best heroines in the movies. An entire generation of boys like me fell in love with her.

She beat out all the BOYS who audtioned for the part. This was back in late 1980s. When she took off her fake beard and costume, and the audience saw she was a GIRL, she got a standing ovation. Nobody knew she wasn't a boy.

The year before the play she dressed up as Harpo Marx for Halloween. Maybe the casting teacher remembered her from that? lol

My husband has a black turtleneck sweater that he's worn only for Halloween, when we've been invited to costume parties and cannot decline for one reason or another. One year, we were invited to come in costume "as a family." My son already had a Star Wars costume. I had a white velvet floor length caftan my sister had made for me as a gift, so, of course, I was Princess Leia and my husband put on his black turtleneck and declared himself to be Han Solo. A few years earlier, he had donned the same sweater and declared himself to be Dracula.
