I think that if troopers were really dragging people on the stage forcibly the public would have responded with disapproval. Something's got to be a bit off about the descriptions of the incidents.

However, it seems his distasteful nature is actually liked in NJ across the board...even 30% amongst Dems as pretty high in my book.

I don't know anything about the cultural mores of NJ, why they would embrace this man. And he's even been mentioned many times as going for higher office.

Did Chaudruc express his reluctance? Was he forcibly pushed on stage? What actually happened. I know Christie's a heartless bully, but according to poll after poll, he's wildly popular in NJ.

What's up with that?

I simply added that because I think in the face of how clearly abusive he is, it's interesting that he remains in such high esteem with so many of the denizens of the state.

for VP we will see his bullying. First off Biden won't take that because he knows how to go with him toe to toe. The american people aren't going to want a hot head for VP or even president. You know, sort of like the "special guests" at a typical state of the union speech / town hall meeting. Just in reverse.

And yet Bruce refuses to do any concerts when Christie asks him. For the Christie's Inauguration he had to bring in a Springsteen tribute band. I'm guessing that'll be the same band that places at the Labor Day concert at the new (and very unneeded) casino in Atlantic City.

the "Don't Tase Me Bro" - nor did people think that "funny". The public officials could not have been more different. Kerry went out of his way to allow a clearly troubled man, who was not at the front of the line to ask a question. He then, after the first question was asked started to respectfully answer - the man interrupted with more (all controversial) questions until the school turned off his mike and had told the security to eject him. Even then, Kerry tried to calm things down, but the officials wanted him out and he was fighting them. As they moved him to the back of the room, Kerry spoke to those at the event continuing to answer the question. He did not know until he left the event that the man was tased at the back of the auditorium.

In addition, the people involved in NJ were NOT trying to create a scene. One, in my county, was a middle aged Republican teacher, who was polite and still forced to the stage. The FL guy was a provoceteur and had set things up to video his verbal attack on the Senator.

The difference is the Senator is a gentleman, the Governor a bully. The Fl guy was a troublemaker, the NJ people were not.

And condone the idea for general treatment of hecklers at public forums.

Sadly, if Kerry had expressed contempt for the man he probably would have gotten a ratings bump for showing "swagger".

the post. Christie's behavior is NOT normal or acceptable. These people were NOT hecklers - in at least some incidents. They were used as props by Christie to create an image of being tough. The point I was making is that Kerry accorded a man who did not deserve it respect, Christie showed no respect for people who clearly did deserve it.

I don't think that Kerry would have gotten a ratings bump for rudeness. The fact is, that just being Kerry he sometimes has swagger. I witnessed that when he campaigned for Corzine in NJ. At the edge of the parking lot at the restaurant where he was speaking, there were a group of college Republicans and an EMS vehicle. A woman who had arrived early had a problem with getting too much sun and was taken to the EMS vehicle when she fainted a few minutes before Kerry arrived. She asked one of the EMS people if he would get a photo (with her camera of Kerry). He left saying maybe he could get Kerry to come. The other man told her that was real unlikely as he would have to leave the front where he was listening to local officials speak and walk through the crowd. In fact, he did just that. As the local paper reported, as he very quickly and purposely walked to the EMS vehicle, the college Republicans thinking he was coming towards them, ran away to the far back of the lot! The EMS guy took a few photos of Kerry and the woman and he wished her well.

John McCain tried to run an honorable campaign (for the most part, if you follow the story of Game Change etc.) and lose (which in that case was a good thing, of course Palin was willing to do dirty work). But the precedent is there for winning dirty in American politics...

That doesn't mean I would have agreed with President Kerry if he had elected to be as conciliatory to the right as Obama has, but anyone in America would have preferred to see Kerry win in hindsight... anyone except the average person who hates "losers" and "softhearted" individuals.
