or was it because no decent democrat would run against him?
As much as I hated Corzine, and I hated " let's privatize the turnpike and parkway" Corzine, I could not vote for Christie. Ditto when Buono, who did very little campaigning that I saw, had an unresponsive team.

Right now I hve been Jerry mandated away from neighboring towns and forced into a strongly republican district with a congressional candidate that very rarely makes appearances because the fix is in for the republican. I have seen people who compete in a losing race with all their heart, but this is not one of them.

Buono supporters. I don't know what I'll do though if Sweeney is running next time around.

I can't vote for him. He pretty much blew Christie and threw Barbara under the bus.

Don't get me started on the National funding sources.

For the rest of my life - I will never give to an org that is "National" in nature. I give only to candidates via direct means.

I'd love to get rid of him - he's the worst of the worst of the "Left" in NJ. If that's the "Left" Leadership - true progressives . . . we've been left behind on their march to appease Christie.

He peeled away enough votes from the democrats secure an election.

Yes, the turnpike was a big part of it, since it would have meant being charged $100 to drive one-way up the turnpike and a commute from Cranbury to Jersey City would have been over $30 one way--for a daily commuter.

On top of that, the monetization plan would have put over $1 Billion in the pockets of a politically selected agency to manage it.

$20 Billion would have gone into the pension system, $20 billion would have gone into the General Fund to be spent as a play thing for his administration... New Jersey's credit rating was dropping and, they were claiming a 6% interest rate, over 99 years (75 years with a 25 year extension). The actual interest rate for this scheme was coming in around the 7.5-8%. Even at a 7% rate, if you amortize that $42 Billion, or whatever the exact amount was, which I had done years back... it would have come out above $140 BILLION, or twice the damage costs of Hurricane Katrina! Just for this one gimmick.

He was doing other stupid stuff, like planning to raid township coffers if there were a surplus in them.

Humorously (not), Christie said that ALL of Corzine's ideas were bad, then he went and implemented that seizure policy and the state grabbed hundreds of millions from local towns who has a surplus or even from towns that issued a separate tax revenue referendum to prefund their accounts for anticipated Christie budget cuts he was planning the next year. Yes, Christie raided towns who raised special taxes to prefund his next year's planned tax cuts...

IMO if Corzine had stepped aside we would still have this seat. When he raised the Parkway tolls, he took Monmouth County (where I live) from 51-48 McCain to 66-33 Christie in the span of a year.

I'm not sure what district you live in but I'm also in a gerrymandered legislative and congressional district (I cried after the congressional redistricting when I went from Pallone to Smith).

I personally gave Barbara Buono a suggestion last year to use the line "a noun, a verb, and Hurricane Sandy" and she didn't. She was treated as a sacrificial lamb from the start and she and her team did nothing to prove the naysayers wrong. NJDSC is just as guilty in this.

The Norcross machine, in South Jersey, wants Rutgers University Camden to become part of Rowan's Campus.

There is a big push for this, even though Rutgers Alumni will cut hundreds of millions in future funding. Support from this, by Rutger's Camden students is close to nill.

Sweeney voted with Christie on a group of fundamentalist bills over the years, including the school voucher thing. He's gone from a Democrat to a DINO, assisting passage of bills that would have never gone though a NJ Senate before.

I believe that there is some kind of deal going on with Rutgers Camden. Right now, the state is pouring in millions to revitalize the campus area... just in time for it to be handed over to a private entity. Yes, I believe that the taxpayers are funding the renovation of Rutgers Camden, and once that is done, Rutgers Camden will become part of Rowan University.
